Compassion, respect and making sure the person is treated with dignity. Have always been close to my older relatives, grandmother, aunts and feel I can show them the love and patience they need. Took care of my aunt for 13 plus years. Very proud that although at times it was difficult I could always find joy in the care of my aunt. I treated her like I would want to be treated.

Legal Guardian and Caregiver, now Administrator of Estate

Estate of Ella M. Martin

May 2003 - Present

My aunt had Alzheimer's, provided care, love, compassion and respect for her. Made sure she was happy, crafts, trips around Austin, weekly program at House of Friends in Austin (great program), church, getting together with friends, swimming, working in the garden, either took her out to get her hair done weekly or did it myself. Nursed her through a broken hip after surgery for hip replacement, arranged care at home rather than r ehab and she was up walking around the block within two weeks. Left my job in 2006 to care for her full time and kept her at home until she passed away November 23, 2016 surrounded by family and pets at the age of 95. Managed her estate, accountings submitted to the court yearly always on time and never a penny off. After struggling to find caregivers that I could trust and would take her to programs and activities I set up, I had no choice but to take on the care myself and treat her with the respect and dignity she deserved. ... more
