I decided I wanted to become a caregiver after completing clinical rotations in a nursing home. The impersonal care and disrespect the patients received was very disturbing and heart breaking. I realized that I want to be able to provide one on one care and attention to individuals while allowing them to continue living on their own and be as independent as possible. I love being a caregiver because I am able to focus on my patient 100%, without distraction, and know that while I am there they are receiving the best care I am able to provide. So many people dread going to work, but in this profession I look forward to going to work and seeing progress with my patient. There is tremendous satisfaction in knowing that what I do, as a caregiver, makes a difference in someone's life everyday. A personal achievement that I am proud of is my patient satisfaction at my current job. My current job is my first caregiver position, and my patients and their families have on numerous occasions pulled me aside and told me how wonderful I am with their family member, loved ones, or to them personally. I have been told by families/patients that it shows that I have a passion for what I do and many times that they have not received as personal or as genuine as the care I provide. I have always had a soft spot in my heart to care for the elderly generation, and until I moved to TX I had no idea that jobs of this nature existed. ... more
