In January 1990, my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. As a result of this, I had to take off work four months to care for her. Her insurance carrier only paid for a Registered Nurse for one month. Well, I had to step in. I was trained to do dressing changes, flush her groshen catheter, as well as bathe her and feed her. After she passed in June of 1990, I felt empty, so I decided that I would become an LVN. Although I graduated in 1992, I never went back to take the state board exam.
