About Nathaniel

I am inquisitive by nature and observant, and my knowledge of history, trivia, and a myriad of other subjects make of me an excellent conversationalist . From the age of 14 I have served in some capacity or another as care-provider in the home. It started with my brother, as I was asked to care for him by our parents, a task that quickly became a full-time job, though in practicality I never regarded it as such. His care and companionship superseded any form of obligation. After his passing I fell back on my other skill. That of a careful listener. Short of professional, therapeutic advice, I found myself giving counsel to those who needed it most when I was asked and simply paying close attention and giving them time to vent their troubles to a friendly ear. Since moving to Texas, I have taken up minor care duties with my chronically ill fiancee, although she often takes care of me as is the way of things. I enjoy taking care of people and soothing their woes. I am a natural protector, even if that just means protecting my charge from the frustration of putting on a particularly recalcitrant sock. I am proud that I served my brother for so many years and that I was able to provide him with not only decent service but a target for conversation and debate, and it is the skills that I have learned over that long career, both physical and mental, that I hope to bring to the table for you and your loved one.

I help my fiancee out with her medical appointments, help her with dressing on days when she is unable to, help her with with feeding and bathing if needed, speaking to her doctors when she is unable due to her memory problems from neurological issues, and on days when her treatments once a month make it hard for her to handle her daily care I handle the cooking and cleaning. I stay with her in the hospital and help her with ambulation and other issues that may also arise.

I was trained to take care of my brother, who was a writer/composer/graphical artist, and spent most of his life in a wheelchair. In his later years he became bedridden due to Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy, In 2004 I became a Certified Living Assistant in Madison,Wisconsin, through Community Living Alliance but that certification has since lapsed. I spent most of my time attending to his needs, making sure he got up, if he needed anything I fetched it, I would put him in his wheelchair, and treated/bandaged his wounds. I was employed with him until his passing in 2011.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health. My personality has always been a love to care for others. Started working in the hospital at age 18. Taught skin care then for 10 yrs. I decided to get a Health degree to teach others how to be healthy. Then I went back to school for nursing. Quality of life is my philosophy. I then went to nursing school after graduation with B S. I love to serve, care for, and help others. It is my nature. I cared for my Grandmother, my mother and my sister through strokes and respiratory illness. Working as a caregiver in the past for patients gives me a sense of fulfilment. I am proud to be able to do so.
