About Melinda

I am a very young 56 yr old CareGiver who has taken care of many loved extended-family clients. I still keep in contact with many of my loved ones. I just recently moved back to Abilene from Dallas/Ft Worth area after being away for quite a few years. I am helping out my daughter by moving here but being back here helps me tremendously also. I still have old high school friends who live here and I already feel "at home" again, thanks to some of them welcoming me home so sweetly. Hugs are more important than people ever give them credit. I have always prided myself on being a "servant" type person. I am truly a Christian believer who attends the Church of Christ and I'm not closed minded at all. I believe we are all God's children and I respect all races. I married here in Abilene and moved here when I was 12 years old. My dad was in the Air Force and we ended up here. My youngest daughter is 12 right now and is attending my old Alma Mater, Mann Middle School. I have stayed close to all my Abilene immediate family and old friends as much as possible. I have 9 grandchildren and will miss seeing some of them as much as I used to but have a few here also which is great! And Dallas is only 2 hours away so not a problem. :) I know that life if short and I feel we all should do our part to care for each other. Our Elderly family members need more help and care than the rest of us is all. They've spent their younger years caring for us and we need to devote time and care to them in their last years, whether it's forgotten or not. I have a huge heart for the young, the elderly and critters of all kinds, except spiders and snakes. Not crazy about those! I hope this insight into myself helps anyone in their search for a very able, healthy, young at heart, caring and loving Caregiver, because that's ME. Melinda G Terry

I worked as a Caregiver/Office Manager in Arlington for the last 3 years. I did everything from the office work to cleaning the home to assisting with all resident care needs daily. I cooked and gave medications and did laundry daily, along with heavy and light cleaning, bathing, dressing, etc. I so enjoyed working with my residents because they get attached, as did I, and truly care about others. I also handled emergency 911 calls and dealt with paperwork daily. I entered residents in our system for State and assisted with tours of the homes when my boss was not available. I learned to be a Caregiver at Country Oaks, and truly felt I was always supposed to do this type work. All the RCA's were trained under an RN and had training classes regularly. We learned to help Dementia and Alzheimers patients and those with Geriatric Depression and were tested on all phases the elderly can go thru. I assisted with all Daily Living Activities and ambulatory needs. I lifted clients at times as needed. I mostly worked the night shift from 6 pm - 6 am but helped during the day shifts at times also. Gave showers, helped clients dress and choose things, room cleanup and assisted with medications and making 911 calls when needed. Served meals and helped clean up and re-set dining room. Laundry and facility checks were nightly duties also. Taking clients calls when they needed things. Checked vitals always and logged everything daily. Handled facility emergencies such as water leakage or snakes in facility, called and assisted EMT's with paperwork and whatever was needed.
