Taking on the Caregiver role isn't something I woke up one day and decided to be. Instead, care giving has been an innate instinctive part of my character. I've always had a tender heart towards anyone in need for as long as I can remember. The internal feeling of giving, helping, others in need is a treasure in itself. There are special challenges Caregivers experience throughout life and with each individual patient. Personally, my biggest challenge and achievement I've encountered is being a patient advocate behind the scenes despite the consequences, and not just in front of the scene with the patient. Being an advocate in my eyes shows leadership skills by standing up for what's legally, morally, and ethically right for everyone's well being; physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Despite this recent achievement costing me my job I've gained in return confidence, professionalism, leadership skills, ability to problem solve and collaborate in a teamwork manner, as well as demonstrate care and respect despite disagreements. Given the circumstances of the situation, an extreme case of cross-contamination to all patients and staff due to my employers (small naturopathic office) refusing to utilize sanitary precautions of any sort, my leave was still on good terms. Due to the medical field highly valuing sanitary precautions I pray my actions are respected and considered of worth.
