About Mary

Hello! I am so excited for you to be considering me as a caregiver for your loved one. I am a very compassionate and empathetic person and I absolutely love caring for the elderly and disabled. As a little girl I wanted to be an actress or a special education teacher. Lol although I am not pursuing a career in either of those fields, I feel that had I been aware of the caregiver position, that would have been on my top! I have established Art programs and numerous facilities throughout Wyoming and I am excited about working with your loved one! I utilize my knowledge gained through my entire college career, including my nursing and psychology education. Although I never achieved my ultimate goal, or a degree, I have been able to dramatically increase the quality of life as well as the overall happiness of many people who are suffering from the devastating effects of Alzheimer's Disease. I am looking forward to meeting you and your loved one and providing them with the care and loving companionship they deserve.

Experience & Education

Residential Advocate

Oct 2017 - Jul 2018
East Texas Crisis Ctr
Provided assistance and support to the residents of the ETCC shelter including but not limited to: Provided all personal needs for daily life including towels bedding toiletries and hygiene products. Assigned chores and supplied appropriate materials needed for such tasks. Ensured cleanliness of shelter and performed hourly walk through checks. Answered the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Hotline and provided each caller with a detailed explanation of their options and the most up to date contact information for correspondence. I also steadily trained for higher positions during my employment and had aspired to be an Client Resource Advocate. Unfortunately, I became ill and my health began interfering in my ability to perform my job duties in a reliable and timely fashion, this led me to resign from my position and take time to heal. I felt that my decision was in the best interest of everyone involved. I dearly miss my residents and the great family of people there.

Private Alzheimer’s Caregiver

Jun 2015 - Aug 2017
Marvelena Hulm
Provided assistance with all daily needs including meal preparation, medication distribution, bathing, personal grooming and cleanliness, kept a record of all daily activities and vitals. Scheduled all her medical and dental appointments. Ensured her overall quality of life was enjoyable. To me, being her friend and not her employee made the biggest impact on my ability to persuade her to adhere to the overwhelming and frustrating schedule. Working with Ms. Hulm opened my eyes to the vast and seemingly forgotten area of friendship and love that I feel is imperative in the care for any human being, especially for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. She inspired me to be the best version of myself at all times and to remember that no one deserves to be forgotten or overlooked. Although I was not employed by the facility that my friend lived in, I developed meaningful relationships with the other residents and I witnessed first hand what an enormous difference a little bit of passion makes for each of them. I majored in Psychology for 4 years before double majoring in both Psych/Fine Arts to be an Art Therapist. This made all the difference with not only my friend but also with the other residents. By the time I moved back to Texas, I was able to hand over my thriving art therapy program to a beautiful soul and worthy co-worker. I will cherish this time for all my life.

I am a compassionate person by nature. I've never met a person I didn't like. I treat everyone as I'd treat my own family and posses a certain understanding of the aging process that most caregivers lack. I genuinely care for every client I have and it's shows in my work.
