As an aspiring physician, I have extensive volunteer experience in caring for the elderly and recovering patients in hospitals around Salt Lake. I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), which is a hospital-based program designed to prevent the onset of delirium in elderly patients. I do this by using specific language to indicate day, time, and place, acivities that engage the mind, and interactive experiences such as hand and foot massages, music therapy, and companionship. I have profound respect for the elderly population and enjoy the time I spend with them. It is both rewarding and uplifting. I look forward to the caregiving opportunities I have as I prepare for a career as a physician.
