I became a caregiver at the request of a friend to be a live-in caregiver for her father who had alzhimers, dementia, diabetes, and some personal hygiene issues. When he was placed in an assisted living facility I went to work for First Choice Nurses and became a caregiver for a 76yoa female mrs doumar working 12hr shifts mon-thur, I also was a caregiver for a 55male patient with ALS for about 6 weeks and attended to all his needs for he was bedridden. I like being a caregiver because I feel like I respond compassionately to the patients and their needs and care a great deal about their own feelings. My personal achievement that I am most proud of is having the patient tell me they are glad I am taking care of them and that they feel safe with me. I am 57 yoa and have been care giving for a year and have found that I really enjoy it and would like to continue it. My live in and mrs doumar have both passed away as of September of this year 2014 and at this moment I do not have any patients.
