About Jaclyn

My name is Jaclyn Lucas and I moved from Illinois to Chesapeake, VA last October to finish my Master's degree in Public Health which I graduated this past August. After working in various work environments; I found I find the most fulfillment taking care and helping others. I obtained my graduate degree from Northern Illinois University with a Master's in Public Health (MPH) and undergrad degree from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Health Information Management (HIM). I initially pursued nursing because I have always had a passion for caring for others but switched majors after my first year because I did not enjoy working the odd hours. My favorite clinical experience in nursing was working in the psychiatric unit in Springfield, IL. Many patients went out of their way to thank me and let me know how much I helped them because they saw that I truly cared. They did not feel judged or looked down upon. One of my strongest, and possibly weakest attributes in regards to working in this field is that I am very empathetic with patients and families. I recently became a volunteer at the Alzheimer's Association based out of Norfolk. My grandma was diagnosed with dementia during the last few years of her life and my mother has epilepsy; so I understand the feeling when a person you love looks at you and does not recognize you. However, I have learned through my life that you can find humor even in the bad times and the more you laugh, the happier/more comfortable the loved one/patient is. I am available during the day from 10:30 to 5/6 and will be going back to Illinois Dec 16-Jan 3 for the holiday break. I just registered on 11/3/16; therefore, my background check will take 4-7 business days. I can provide a list of references in the meantime until my background check comes through.

I am a fun and loving caring caregiver. I love having my patients laugh and have a good day. It makes me smiles. I like helping all types of people. I was taking care of an ALS patient just seeing him smile and getting him out and about was the best achievement we had together.
