Hi my name is Maisha Buckley! I've recently became caregiver and I've been working as a caregiver for two months. I have my BLS/CPR card, NAR license, Dementia/Mental Health training, HIV/AIDS training, and I have training in giving out medications. I do plan to get my CNA license soon, and I also plan to go back to school and start the nursing program at Seattle Central Community College (A.N.). Then I to get my RN license and transferring over to UW Tacoma and getting my B.S. in Nursing. I didn't plan to become a caregiver at first. At the time, I couldn't receive any financial aid to continue to go to school at Green River for Medical Coding, so I started looking for a job on Craigslist. I saw a job posting about getting free CNA training in exchange for 6 months of work, so I called to set up an interview and I started my training a week later. After passing the training, I found my current job and paid back the company who paid for my CNA training and I've been working as a caregiver since. I currently work at a facility called Terry Home in Auburn, WA. Terry Home is boarding home for young adults who've suffered a TBI or Traumatic Brain Injury. Ironically, I'm one of the youngest people in the facility. I love working with the residents and the people that I work with. The residents are funny and happy to be around. It's hard work and the residents aren't always cooperative or nice. I've been cussed out, insulted, yelled at, and I've been flipped off a few times too. But, being a caregiver and my friends at work have helped me grown in ways I didn't expect. I've learned to more patient with myself and others, I've gotten better at communicating with people, and I'm open to people as well. If you're interested in getting to know more about me or contact me, just email, text or call me Tuesday - Thursday between 8- 5 pm. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!
