About Catherine

I came from a family of thirteen. I started caregiving for my younger siblings. My first job at twelve was taking care of a senior in her home. My senior year of high school, I worked in a nursing home. I then got married and raised three sons. I managed apartments for ten years. I was in the newspaper business for twelve years. I worked for Washington state four years. Nothing compares to the satisfaction I get when I'm helping people who really need me. I know I make a difference for them as I can see the relief they feel when I walk in the door. A caregiver has to be a lot of things. Each client requires something different. I give my residents all they need and more. I make them feel safe and that they can trust me. I love the challenge of each situation. I feel I'm getting a free education as this age group has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. I've learned so much. I have been caregiver of the year twice, which lets me know others see my skills and appreciate them also. I'm a certified nursing assistant. I live on Harstene Island.

I have experience working in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and private homes. I'm currently doing in home care. I handle all aspects of daily living for seniors including housekeeping. I Implement care plans, record vital signs and keep a patient log. Ensure the clients needs are met including helping with feeding, walking and personal hygiene. Communicate clients needs effectively with person in charge and medical professionals when needed. When I worked in the nursing home setting, I worked four years on an Alzheimer's unit. Assisting residents with all aspects of personal grooming, bathing, feeding, supervision and activities. Assisted nurses with medical treatments, procedures and emergencies. Maintained patient files. Worked well with co-workers and individually with little to no supervision. I used professional problem-solving skills and conflict resolution skills when needed. At the assisted living facility, I worked one on one with clients, mostly supervision so they could stay in their homes.
