About April

I am looking for a position where I can best utilize my well-rounded background of support, assistance, and troubleshooting. I am passionate about homes and people, whether it's seniors, families or singles. As a homeowner myself for 30 years, I love to tackle small repairs and perform maintenance on everything from yards and gardens to appliances and minor electrical repair. I worked many years at clerical jobs and I love to organize and streamline the messiest places and create systems that work. Some people find it odd that I truly enjoy cleaning and cooking but it was as I was enjoying these tasks that it occurred to me that I should be doing it for a vocation. I truly enjoy spending time with seniors and I have endless energy and patience to care for them. It was my determination to prevent seniors from being taken advantage of that got me started in this. My daughters are grown and gone so I am free to devote my care to someone that is worthy of the finest care and appreciates what I can provide. I am a consummate Gal Friday, trustworthy and intuitive. It gives me great pleasure to anticipate what my clients need or want and keep them safe, happy and satisfied. Going the extra mile is taken for granted in my approach. I have a lot of energy, knowledge, intelligence and loving care to share. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for taking the time to consider me as an applicant.

Experience & Education

Caregiver/companion/gardener

Apr 2014 - Oct 2020
Mrs. F
Mrs. F had MS and needed assistance with transfers, PT, ADLs. She directed me to care for her African Violets, make greeting cards and other craft projects and her outdoor garden. I showered her, made her lunch and performed all kinds of various tasks. This allowed her husband to have some much needed respite. Sadly, after a procedure to cure her MS, she contracted an infection and died. Her husband has Parkinson's and other health issues so I continued to care for the garden and around the house.

Caregiver

Mar 2015 - Jan 2017
Mr. and Mrs. H
Mrs. had just come home after a long rehab after breaking a hip. She had dementia and intermittent ability to walk. Mr. has slight dementia. As part of a team, I work two 24-hour shifts with one ear open at night. Mrs. passed away in a few years ago so we are now caring for 96 yo Mr. I take him out daily to walk, run errands, do shopping and pretty much manage the house for our team.
Mar 2015 - Jan 2017

Caregiver

Oct 2013 - Oct 2016
Mrs. M
After a knee replacement complicated by a kidney problem, Mrs. M hired me for 3 weeks, 24/7. It was my pleasure to cook and clean and run her house, transporting her to Seattle and Winslow for appointments and shopping. The kidney situation took quite a few procedures and months to get back to routine care of her ostomy bag. As she gradually recovered, my days were reduced to fewer and fewer. She lost her balance one day when I was not there and had to go to a home.
Oct 2013 - Oct 2016

Caregiver

Jan 2013 - Sep 2014
Mrs. S
With a severe case of osteoporosis and just recovering from a broken arm and hip, she needed help with bathing, dressing, toileting and of course everything around the house. I enjoyed cooking, cleaning, preparing for the holidays, running errands, yard work and she taught me to play canasta. We played nearly every day and entertained her friends with my homemade shortbread and tea. When another caregiver needed my days to support her extended family after the typhoon, I bowed out and took another position.
Jan 2013 - Sep 2014

Caregiver

Jul 2013 - Dec 2013
Bob
At 54 he suffered from frontotemporal lobe dementia. Almost always taking a negative outlook, needing to repeat a very limited routine. Very limited social interaction with his caregivers and society at large. I would take him for drives, walks and for coffee, lunch and dinner. After 5 months with Bob, his family determined he would possibly benefit from care from his family member who had just returned to town. Sadly, he died a few months later.
Jul 2013 - Dec 2013

Caregiver

Aug 2013 - Aug 2013
Mr. and Mrs. D
This was sadly a very short job. I joined a team of two other caregivers, working 3 of the 24-hour shifts per week for this lovely couple on hospice care. He had COPD and she had advanced dementia. He died the second week of my service and she died 3 1/2 weeks later. I was attending to her when she died. My duties included cooking and feeding, dressing and laundry, assisting the bath aide, medication administering, and general daily household management. I took it upon myself to organize and de-clutter everything I possibly could--didn't have to get rid of anything, just moved it around:) The daughters and other caregivers were thrilled with the work I did.
Aug 2013 - Aug 2013

Caregiver and household help

Jan 2012 - Jan 2013
Mrs. MacC
Four days a week I came over and made breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen and did laundry and housekeeping for Mrs. MacC and her daughter's family. We went for drives, sat and visited and occasionally went out to lunch. When she moved into a care facility, my job came to an end.
Jan 2012 - Jan 2013

Caregiver/Companion

Jun 2012 - Sep 2012
Mrs. O'T
At 90, she was very hard of hearing and had poor eyesight yet managed her own medicines and affairs for the most part. I accompanied her to and from the bathroom and she used her walker unassisted. I cooked and served her meals, got her mail and provided companionship around the clock. She had a daughter stay for extended visits from out of town that displaced her caregivers.
Jun 2012 - Sep 2012

Organizer, Household Assistance, Childcare

Jan 2012 - Aug 2012
The C Family
A young busy family who chose to spend more time with their children and hobbies, rather than cleaning, doing laundry. I kept their home humming. I quickly made more space and calm by organizing their rooms, closets and garage and helped them stay efficient. I fed and cared for the boys and helped the family in any way I could including small home improvements. They eventually felt they could manage things on their own.
Jan 2012 - Aug 2012

Caregiver, Cook, Organizer, Housekeeper

Jan 2011 - Jan 2011
The Gs
I cooked and cleaned for this unusual couple and cared for the invalid woman. The home was in utter filth and disarray due to extreme collecting, extended illness, psychological impairment and depression. She suffered from a multitude of ailments and he was overwhelmed by caring for her as long as he could.

Caregiver and household help

Jan 2011 - Jan 2011
Mrs. C
I provided respite care for 2 of her daughters who lived with their mother in the farmhouse where she raised 8 children. Severe dementia and declining health confined her to a wheelchair and she needed diligent 24 hour observation to keep her from getting back to the busy life she thought she was still tied to! I prepared and served meals (some feeding), assisted with ADLs, administered medications, slept in her bed with her and provided bathroom assistance and at the end, palliative care.
Jan 2011 - Jan 2011

I was part of a team of 6 women who cared for this elderly couple for a year until their deaths within a month of each other. I prepared and served meals (some feeding), assisted with ADLs, monitored medication, cleaned house and did laundry, accompanied on outings and to dinners, provided bathroom assistance and at the end, palliative care. Afterward, I continued to help the family by participating at the estate sale and subsequent efforts to empty the large home they left behind.

He had Parkinson’s and she had Alzheimer’s. He passed away in 2008 and she now has another care situation.

Ms. O
When my Great Aunt moved from Tucson at the age of 93, I helped her get familiar with Seattle, and within a short time, move her from the assisted living situation to an apartment of her own, twice. I took her grocery shopping almost every week and we ran errands and just went out to lunch or to look around the community. I continued to care for her until just before she passed away at the age of 101.

Hello, my name is Elisa I am 59 years old My caregiving started in 1995 , as my Mother became ill , I knew she would want a high level of in home care that I would personally be able to provide. As her illness became more advanced , it was important to me that she be able to stay in her home where she would be more comfortable. A few time a week turned into every day, then several hours a day. My Mothers wishes to be at home in her time of need was fulfilled . And it was a blessing and a honor to be there for her. I found myself wanting to give other families the same opportunity my Mother was given. I continued working closely with other families as well as with the IHSS of King Co. from 1995 till 2001.Then in California in Contra Costa Co. From 2002 - 2009 then , I returned back to Washington State where I have continued my work with private families. I am available to start giving the best care to your loved ones or yourself and give the same opportunity to remain safely in your home. I am currently approved, on the Home Health Care Registry . Please feel free to see a full work history upon request. References can be provided upon request. I have been given the covid vaccine .

I am a people person and love taking care of people. At the end of the day, it makes me feel good to know I helped someone else. I tend to go above and beyond for others, it comes natural for me. Going through the training to become certified has been a personal achievement, I was nervous at first, thought it would take forever. When I finished the training and became certified I felt great, because I could continue taking care of others. I am Covid-19 vaccinated.
