What makes me a great caregiver is I have a natural urge to help others. I have always placed a priority on helping other people. I want to make the world a better place and I can do it with one home care patient at a time. While still in high school, I became a Candy Striper for a local hospital, helping out with medical records and little jobs as needed around the hospital. Being surrounded on a daily basis by this kind of environment is what made me want to become a caregiver. Being a caregiver is such an honor - it's all about putting away your needs to assist others. Knowing that a smile on your face can bring joy and happiness to someone else is priceless. The moments when you can reflect back and see how you have helped someone is what caregiving is all about. The personal achievement I am most proud of is that my background in nursing and care giving allowed me to care for my mother for 13 years at home before she passed away. And from that I was able to care for my aunts without putting them in a nursing facility.

With 4 years at KP, 2 years of trauma experience with LAC+USC, 2 years of Home Health, and 2 years in a geriatric center, I'd say I have a little experience. I became a caregiver due to the fact that I feel a deep sense of confidence, and accomplishment in caring for someone. I like the fact that being a caregiver is preparing me for the nursing field. I am a student at Los Angeles Southwest College and I will be a nursing student fall of 2016.
