Over the past 3 years, I have been the care giver of my mother. She was first diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in the summer of 2017, and I placed my studies on hold and moved from New York to assist my mom on all her care needs including going to her appointments. This unfortunate event thought me the importance of caring of a person in need. Nearly all her appointments are in Los Angeles, therefore requiring me to drive her to her appointments and translate since her primary language is Spanish. I had to coordinate her appointments. I have learned that caring of a person is conforting when I make them feel that they can count on me and I am there to listen.

What makes me a good caregiver is that I am patient, compassionate, attentive and most importantly, you can trust me. I enjoy helping people to live their best life no matter the situation. Illness or injury can sometimes bring out the worst in people simply because they are dealing with something new and very unfamiliar. No one enjoys feeling sick. Therefore, patience and compassion go hand in hand when caring for someone. It's important to me to be attentive to changes in emotion or the physical; it may be a symptom of something arising out of the client's current circumstance. And finally, trust; having a trusted caregiver means you will have a sense of comfort knowing your loved one is in good hands whether in your home or theirs. What I like about being a caregiver is, it gives me joy and a sense of satisfaction being an aid to someone else. I work well with others, I'm able to follow protocols given by family and medical staff. I have excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and organization.

She later realved that I appeared in one of her dreams and told her it wasn't her time and she knew she had to fight for me. I love having such a special connection with people and I would like to help others who have a little more trouble providing what I could do for my family members.

I have always had important and wise seniors in my life. I had a maternal grandmother who live in my family home for 28 years. I loved spending time with her, learning to cook, play cards, watching our favorite shows, and showing respect and love to her as she aged and became ill. Through her, and other people in my life, I learned empathy and compassion. I wanted to help her and to let her know how much I cared for her. I wanted to do what I could to keep her happy and comfortable I believe I have a great deal of patience and I genuinely like people. I try to see things from their perspective knowing sometimes it is hard to ask for help. I am someone who you can count on to show up and to come with a positive attitude. I think the thing I am most proud of is raising three very kind and strong daughters. .
