I enjoy helping others especially those who can't help themselves. I became a caregiver after my brother died in the hospital. He was severely beaten and succumbed to his injuries. After being with him for three weeks in the hospital I decided that this is what I wanted to do. I started taking a management course this year at The University of Denver. I am a clinical Social Worker licensed in the state of Colorado. I have recently moved from Denver to Palm Springs California. I have been practicing in the field of social work for 17 years. I am in the process of obtaining my clinical social work license in the state of California. However, the process can take from one to two years to complete. In the mean time. I primarily became a caregiver for my mother which was for almost 8 years. I love taking care of people and making sure they are safe, well taken care of, and supported. I am proud of my bachelor degree which I will have by Spring of 2016! My studies are in Gerontology and I want to be an advocate for the elderly. They need and deserve a strong voice. I became a caregiver to help my mother take care of my grandmother starting when I was in Jr. High School. My grandmother was always calling my name so naturally I went. My mom would say thank you. One day she bought me a small gift. I asked her what it was for. She said you always help without be asked or saying a thing. I told her it was something I enjoyed doing and no one had to asked me I was brought up knowing it was the right thing to do. My grandmother was in a wheelchair. When my mom became ill I took care of her. After she passed away I was left with an empty feeling . I thought it was because she was gone and yes, that was part of it. But it took me about a year to realize I was feeling this way because I missed taking care of someone. I had found my calling. I really enjoying helping people!! I

I am patient, respectful & treat all my residents/clients like adults. Which is helpful in making them feel still very independent. I am also reliable & kind, but also able to set boundries that are able to make me and the client both feel comfortable, so I can do my job at its best. A personal achievement of mine was being a big help in the recovery of one of my residents. Who had no hope to walk again but with exercises and comfort she was able to use her walker & get back to being able to walk her puppy.
