I became an LPN in 1992. My career as a nurse was primarily in assisted living, Alzheimer's assisted living and nursing homes. I hurt my back, at home, in 2003 and have had surgeries to correct slipped discs. I can, however, help care for people where lifting is not required. I've been working for a man who had a stroke for 5 years as of 10/2019. They are a wonderful family and will gladly give a reference if requested. I also worked around 4&1/2 years for a lady who cares for the elderly in a couple of houses she owns in Aurora. I had to leave there in August 2019 as lifting was becoming inevitable there. But I did enjoy it. I did light cleaning, laundry, medication administration, light dressing, toileting and cooked and served meals. I also provided simple companionship. I also cared for my elderly grandparents. My grandma had Alzheimer's. It was very difficult for me but, I was extremely close to them and loved them dearly.

I am a CNA I currently work part time in a facility in Palos park. I have been a CNA for 9+years I have experiance in long term, skilled and Alzheimer's care. I am patient, compassionate and knowledgeable.

To be a good caregiver it is important to have the diversity and flexibility to care anyone that is in need and when it is needed. It is very important to have compassion and understanding of the care the individual is seeking. Having knowledge of the specific care of an individual is important. It is also important to be dependable and prompt for the client. The bond between the caregiver and client plays an important roll. Trust and compassion is important. All of these together is my ideal GREAT caregiver. How I chose to be a caregiver is simple, it fell into place with undecided decisions. My son had several medical problems after returning home from Afghanistan. I was very involved with my sons medical attention. I worked side by side with all his medical care teams to give appropriate treatment. During his time of recovery and on going treatment, I resigned from my career so that I may provide the care my son needed. With the involvement and attention from the VA, the veterans affairs asked me to become legally his caregiver. They sent me through a quick program at Easter seals then licensed me and assigned me his caregiver. I have really enjoyed learning the different medical attention and approaches he and others need. It came natural to me. Therefore, I have decided to return to college and and change careers to be in the medical industry. I am planning on getting accepted into the RN program at my local college. I have taken a class to receive my certification for CPR. My son is excelling and maintaining his health which leaves me to have time to provide my care to others. I enjoy being a caregiver because I am giving back to the ones that are in need of care. I enjoy the companion, responsibility, and diversity. My personal achievement would be my son. I raised him on my own. I watched him tackle some hard hurdles in his life such as his health issues after returning home from war in 2011.

I became a caregiver because I enjoy working with people. I get a good feeling from helping people in need. My favorite thing about being a caregiver is knowing your making an impact on someone's life. I am proud of getting into nursing school for my BSN and I will soon graduate. What makes me a great caregiver is I'm extremely understanding and very reliable. I was offered a job 2 and a half years ago as a home care aide from my cousin through a local company it was just supposed to be temporary and I ended up really liking what I was doing and stuck with it for a little over 2 years but wasn't getting paid enough. I am trying to figure out what I still want my career path to be to support myself and my daughter. I am in college right now for nursing.

I became a caregiver because it fufills my heart, mind , and soul. I get great satisfaction knowing that I can help keep a person safely and comfortably in their home. Meeting new people and their families has given me a lot of knowledge to use for the next job I am fortunate to receive. My years of experience have taught me to have patience and compassion for each person because everybody is different in their own way. I have raised an incredible teenager who is thriving in life. One of the things I am most proud of is that I took care of my mother who was dying of lung cancer. I was the best advocate for her that I could be. I kept her safe and comfortable to live out the last days of her life. I have done a little of everything in the medical field. I have worked in the ER, assisted living, home health and hospice and live in private duty. When I am not working I enjoy reading, camping, and spending time with my family.

After taking care of a relative . I knew that it was in me to care other my compassion too help people who know longer can help them selves efficiently. I'm very proud of being a mother / Grandmother my family is my joy I'm a single parent who raised 3 children. Also my completion of Certification to become a certified Nurse Assistant. I became a CNA because I helped take care of my grandfather when he was dying and those memories will last forever. We grew a bond like no other and I want to do the same for other families. A personal achievement that I am proud of is not letting my kids hold me back from my dream of becoming a RN. I love to help and care for people.
