Lifts were all manual and showers, bowel movement with a Fleet was continuous for the 3 yrs l worked with him. I took him where ever he wanted to go, Beach, Dr.'s, Park, Patriots Football Games, Concerts. I have been working since then with the disabled, psychiatric disabled, physically disabled, Drug Rehabilitation. What attracted the most to look into this field and to sign me up for CNA school was for my grandparents that I was very close to and who raised me so I did it for them! Because unfortunately, my grandmother was in a nursing home and she was very neglected to the point. Some thing happened to her and she passed away so she gave me my motivation to be where I'm at today. I'm a very compassionate person very honest the most outright patience I have for people is incredible always in a positive mood And I've always wanted to take care of others who don't have others to take care of them. *Patience. Those who provide home care to others need to be patient. Being patient means that the person understands that there may be changes in plans, things may not go as quickly as planned, and there may be a little hesitation at times on the part of the person receiving care. *Compassion. When someone has compassion for another they have an understanding of what the person is going through. *Attentiveness. It is important when providing home care that the caregiver is attentive to the needs and changes that are taking place. By being attentive, the caregiver, will notice when there are emotional or physical changes in the person he or she is caring for. *Dependability. Those who need home care don't usually just need it sporadically. Rather it is on a regular basis, so it is imperative that a caregiver be dependable and show up to provide the care that the person needs and is counting on. *Trustworthiness. Caregivers are often in a position that will allow them to have access to the belongings of the person they are caring for. It is crucial that the caregiver be someone who is trustworthy and will not breach that trust by taking advantage of the person her or she is caring for.

Personally I became a caregiver on the simple fact that I want to treat people the way I want to be treated if something should happened to me where I can no longer care for myself. I started working in a rest home for society's "unwanted angels" at the age of 18. Many of these people were either physically or mentally challenged in some way and they never had visitors. The staff treated these people horribly by shutting off the heat at night, beating them, and letting them lie in their own feces for hours. I complained to the board of health and this place was shut down soon after. I continued to work third shift in a better nursing home and went to work at Fair Haven Rest Home at the age of twenty five. I got out of the medical field for awhile and picked it up again at the age of 43 at Serenity Home which is a 20 bed facility for the mentally ill. I did med passes and took blood pressures and blood sugar readings and tended to the clients. That was my favorite job that I had ever had in my life. I would have stayed but unfortunately there was a very large turnover and everyone was laid off, including my boss who had worked there for 14 years. I then was hired shortly after by a reputable company named Home Instead. I was a traveling home health aid when unfortunately i injured my arm on the job and it took seven months to heal. Now I am ready to back into the PCA/ Home Health Aid field but I don't wish to travel. I prefer to take care of one person or work in just one f
