Being a caregiver is something that comes natural to me. I've always wanted to help others. I think one has to be very empathetic to those that they're helping. Being a Direct support para-professional, putting myself in the shoes of my patients who were losing their memory, in a wheel chair for the rest of their lives, getting arthritis as well as just dealing with old age is very important. I think about how I would feel as well as what type of service excellence I would like to receive when getting care, and as a caregiver I try to exceed my patients expectations. While working in a hospital I come across many different people but when I get to discharge a patient and one says " Camay, Thank you so much for everything. You have helped me from the time I walked in, to me walking out now. You are a sight for sore eyes and I will never forget how you have helped me. Thank you", my heart smiles. Being a caregiver is amazing and when someone tells you that because of the excellent care they received, you have changed their life, you carry a little piece of that person's heart with you forever.

Hello my name is Erica Riley, I am 20 years old and I am a caregiver. I am Currently in school to get my CNA. But I have been taking care of people my whole life it started when I was about 3-5 I had a uncle who was very sick and of course I was a child and didn't know at the time but i knew he was very sick. I would call myself his nurse... an whatever he wanted I did I stay by his side and gave him his meds and gave him food and comfort. As well as my Grandmother on my father side of my family I took Care of her too she passed when i was around 10 years old. Every since I felt taking care people was my profession.

I love helping out the elderly, its something I have always wanted to do and when I got the opportunity to do it, I have loved it ever since. I would help my grandmother a lot during her daily activities and I loved doing it so much. Being a caregiver means a lot to me. I love helping out others, if I don't help others I am so hard on myself. I have been an LPN charge nurse and CNA/Companion for 20 years. I was raised by a very exceptional loving grandmother which developed a love of the elderly in me. I really enjoy the work I do now as a one on one companion and caregiver. It has meant the most to me that clients have confided to me that their lives were lonely and going nowhere until we developed a helping relationship with enjoyable social interchanges like conversation and games and other interventions to nurture memory and mood.

I became a caregiver because i am a person with big heart, and love providing care for those who need to be taken care of. i care for both children, adults and the aged.
