Loving people makes me a great caregiver because love is an action word. I became a caregiver because I love caring for those not thought of. My greatest accomplishment was learning to love in spite of and getting vaccinated.

My first experience with being a caregiver was when my mother became ill. I had no help from siblings so I took care of my mom by myself. My mom suffered from Dementia. I've always been the type of person who loves to care for the elderly in our family. After my mom passed away I decided to continue to be a caregiver. I get so much joy out of knowing that I have helped someone that basically cannot help themselves. It gives me great joy to see smiles on their faces.

Hello! What I love most about being a caregiver/CNA is being able to be a shoulder for those who do not have anyone. I love helping those who need it most or being there for those who aren't able to care for themselves and are seeking long-term care. I've been taking care of those I care about since I was 11 so being a caretaker comes naturally. I have more than 6 years of experience and I understand the importance of following the care plan. My first client was my Mom and although she left me early she was my motivation for wanting to be a Nurse/Caregiver. I really enjoy seeing the smiles on the faces of the lives I've changed or made an impact on. I am a mother so I do understand the importance of paying attention to details and communication. I have extensive experience and training and love the field. My only goal is to offer safe and quality care first and foremost to my clients. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health. My personality has always been a love to care for others. Started working in the hospital at age 18. Taught skin care then for 10 yrs. I decided to get a Health degree to teach others how to be healthy. Then I went back to school for nursing. Quality of life is my philosophy. I then went to nursing school after graduation with B S. I love to serve, care for, and help others. It is my nature. I cared for my Grandmother, my mother and my sister through strokes and respiratory illness. Working as a caregiver in the past for patients gives me a sense of fulfilment. I am proud to be able to do so.

I like to encourage and lift up the spirits of my patients. I took care of my mother who was in a wheelchair and then later became bedridden for over 10 years. We would watch tv together. I would be her legs and get her whatever she needed. Mom and I would also go to her doctor appointments together. I would set up appointments for her also. I assisted her in transferring to her wheelchair on a sliding board and also used a Hoyer lift to sit her in her wheelchair. I would be there during physical therapy and do exercises with her on days there was no physical therapy. I also set up her medication for the week and administered it to her. We would go outside in the backyard on nice days and garden together. I did all this everyday for over 10 years. Towards the end she used a bed pan. I changed her sheets and did her laundry. I enjoyed caring for her. Mom and I had a good time together. She was also a bariatric patient. She weighted over 400 lbs.

When my grandmother was sick, I was the person who was her caregiver. I bathe her, cooked for her and made sure all her needs were met. While caring for my grandmother I realized that i liked working with the elderly because they need companionship and understanding. Caring for the elderly really humbles you to understand the the elderly only wants to be understood and care for. I am a hard worker and take others feelings and well being before my own. I am most proud of being able to work with students and senior citizens; I have learned a great deal from both age groups.

My personality traits that helps me be a great caregiver are Patience. People who need care often take longer to complete simple tasks. Compassion,Empathy and understanding are absolutely necessary,Humor,Being Present,Detail Oriented,Able to Accept Help,Willing to Set Boundaries,Cooperative. What attracted me to be a caregiver? Caregivers take care of our elders, the people who have given so much to this world. Taking care of people is something you can be proud of.Some residents become lonely or sad, but a great caregiver can help them change their mood for the better. I am a retired physical therapist assistant. My background is primarily in geriatric rehabilitation, wound care, stroke recovery, exercise programs, ambulatory activities, etc. I have recently been employed as a home health care aide. Duties include: light house keeping, meal preparation, exercise, and medication reminders. I also have been trained in both crisis intervention and grief counseling.

I am a compassion and loving person. I pride myself in serving others with the upmost respect and honor. I think my personality and natural nurturing have called me into caregiving. I enjoy getting to connect with clients and serve them in a vulnerable time. I am proud of my achievements in my education and strength throughout life's challenges.

I've always wanted to be in the health field. Originally I wanted to be a nurse so I practiced by taking care of my grandmother, my uncle & sick kids in the family. I love to help others! I wanted to become a caregiver because there are so many families who need the support. I recently just lost my great grandmother who had a caregiver and I was able to learn and become appreciative of what caregivers do. With my love of helping people - placing dignity and respect for my elders and my never-ending passion for learning into practice, I became a caregiver. My first ever client taught me how to take one's time in remembering where we come from while cutting the grass with scissors. (Note I never let them cut the grass themselves, but they really wanted even blades of grass- I wanted them to smile.) My person had Alzheimer's but didn't let that stop them from living as freely as possible. Currently, I help children who are wards of the state go into kinship homes with a family caregiver, but I miss caring for someone myself and would love to do so with an individual while I work with the children too. I am allergic to cats and cannot change litter boxes.

My Care-giving career started at an early age, helping my sister who was finally diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia after many long years of suffering and testing. She is the bravest person I know! I saw how it affected her spirit and I knew then that I wanted to help others who suffered as she has. I am a strong believer that love can conquer all and all need love (loves comes in many forms...respect, compassion, honesty the list goes on)! I too have suffered with birth defects that have affected my life greatly and have had a couple of major surgeries but I never let it get me down...It caused me to persevere setting my eyes on the bigger picture...it is a gift to serve others...In my humble opinion it is then and only then that true happiness is found! I strive to do my very best and go the extra mile to make sure I do, I am not perfect and never will be but I'll keep striving towards the mark! I treat clients as if they were family. I am a people person, warm, open and empathetic, I usually know when to speak and when to listen. I just love people ...what else can I say! I am a hard working, loving person that enjoys helping others. I have a special needs child so I am familiar with working with trachs,ventilators,and mentally and physically dependent patients.

I cared for my mother who lived alone until she entered hospice care at the age of 100. I cleaned her apartment, did all of her grocery shopping, took her to doctor appointments, and made sure she was taking her meds and eating properly. (Sometimes that didn't go too well.) For five years I took care of a high-functioning, mentally handicapped young man while he waited to go into a group home. I taught him bachelor survival as we worked on his vocabulary and pronunciation. I took him to church and to the library and taught him to check out books. The one thing I failed at was teaching him to clean the bathroom. As he explained to me-it just wasn't his thing. Afterward I took care of a lady who was diabetic and had the beginning of dementia. I was able to work closely with her and her physical therapist to reduce excruciating pain in her feet and legs due to poor circulation and stayed with her until she went into hospice care. Before I retired, I started working with Angel Sitters, a company that provided baby sitting and sometimes elder care services. That was almost 17 years ago. I'm still with them, but I would like more hours than they can give me now. I love seeing my patients improve their mental and physical health and I enjoy the companionship we have together. Caregiving is much more fun than sitting behind a desk shuffling paper.

I am a caring and compassionate person and have had life experience caring for my sister with disabilities, my father with Parkinson's and my son with epilepsy. In addition, my mother recently had a stroke after having had open heart surgery and I continue to help care for her as well. My youngest children are now in college and I am looking to find a part-time assignment to supplement my income and help them with college expenses. My passion is teaching children but love the interaction with the elderly as well.
