I was a teacher for 27 years and retired and really miss being out in the community and helping others and getting to meet new people. One of my biggest qualities is caring for others and I have missed this. I took care of my grandparents and great aunt when they were having dementia and physical restrictions. The experience of being an activity director and care giver before has helped me become the care giver I am today. I decided to go in to this type of work after my mother was diagnosed with MS. I took care of her for many years and it made me want to help others.

My parents were aging and I was living out of the state with a family and career. I went home on many occasions to take care of the many health management appointments and business appointments for my parents. It was so overwhelming for me and trying to discuss their affairs over the phone just made the task more stressful. Seeing that my parents needed more hands on attention, I made a decision to move back home. I handle all of their affairs from their medical needs to driving them to the grocery store. I can see their relief of having someone to take over some of these responsibilities. Then I thought,could there be more adult children struggling to balance work, family and their aging parents or even older individuals who just need a little help here and there? I have experience as certified pharmacy tech, medication aide and took a course to review the skills as home health aide. My first client was a fifty-something woman whose mother had a stroke and she needed help in locating a facility for rehabilitation. She had a full time career and family. I gathered the information and she was able to make a decision that was best for her mom. I can do that for others because of my skills set and experience as a good human being. Everyone needs a little help !

As the oldest of 6 children I spent a lot of my childhood watching after my siblings while my mom worked. It made me become more mature and the people around me trusted me with their children. I love taking care of people and helping others in any way I possibly can
