When my mother was ill, I was the one she would call to make her scrambled eggs. I took her to the swimming pool and hot tub to get exercise and relaxation. I cut her hair, took her to doctor's appointments and then lunch, and generally gave her some companionship. As I dusted her knickknacks, she told me where each was from. Mom died in 2002. When dad was ailing, some of my family tried to move him into assisted living, but he wanted to stay in his own home. I gave up my apartment and moved in with him, while working in publishing during the day. We had a great time together for a year and a half. Just after he died, I lost my job because I had spent too much time with dad. That evening, the daughter of a neighbor I'd assisted over the years called me, asking if I could help her mother. That began years of caregiving in which I have helped people stay in their homes, and enjoy life. I've brought my keyboard and played hymns and popular songs, singing with them and laughing. As a caregiver, I am simply happy to help my people stay in their own familiar setting. I believe the way I interact with them makes them happy. And my cooking makes them extremely happy! I built my cooking experience on my mom's, then learned to cook for fewer than 8 people! I edited three "Taste of the Country" cookbooks, working with a professional dietician who taught me many ways to fit dietary needs while providing tasty food.

Through personal experience with both my grandmothers, we found it difficult to find good quality and reliable care. Starting in High school I took a medical terminology course , and from there my interest in the medical field grew. I took the CNA course through Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville and LOVED IT! I opted to take the additional Advance Nursing Assistant course. I have worked in many different environment such as nursing homes, hospital and Home Health. After 3 years I decided to open my own business become licensed and insured to provide Care for others in their Home and it's been the Best discission of my life!!

I became a caregiver for my passion for helping others, and being an advocate for my clients/patients. I love that being a caregiver helps me alongside my schooling and furthering my knowledge and experience. I enjoy being the person that my clients/patients can count on and love just like their own family. Mother of 3 grown children Took care of my Mom the last 2 years of her life. She had brain cancer. Took care of my neighbor for a few years when he had Alzheimers. I started out as a dietary aid at a living assistant community, I would help out the C.N.A's when they were shorthanded; helping patient to the restroom and to dinner. The girls would tell me that, I should go to school to be a nurse’s aide because; I had the attitude, patience and the heart to work with people. So I started to work with patients who had Alzheimer’s and dementia and, I loved the atmosphere, generally helping people and listening to their stories. My childhood dream was to become a nurse and, that's what I wanted to do work with people. Some of my personal achievement are, my two son's bringing them into this world will be the greatest thing I will ever do in my life also; marring my husband it's always a grand achievement to find that special someone and, share your life with them. Growing up I had three goals and they were to be a, Teacher, Nurse and Veterinarian. I had the chance to go to school and receive my Certification as an Assistant Nurse and I had the chance to, go back to school to get my associate degree in teaching; I also have decided to go back and obtain my degree as a Registered Nurse. I think in life if you have the privilege and determination to follow every dream or goal you have then, go for it.

I became a Certified Nurse Assistant because I understand how difficult life and decisions can be without basic support on variable mental, emotional and physical levels. I feel that is where my passion and dedication to help others roots from. In my early childhood, the relationship between my grandparents and I was unique and special to me. I would go above and beyond to be helpful around the house whether it was dusting, washing the car or even cleaning up the mess made by the fish my grandfather caught and cleaned for a meal. Many of times, I would just do without being asked. Ultimately, no matter what the duties were, it always gave me this great rewarding feeling inside just being helpful in making the day/night easier for them. Im proud of being able to extend my natural capabilities to anyone/ families who can benefit from assistance.

The reason why I became a caregiver is because of my grandmother. I like caring for other because I feel like that could be my grandmother or my grandfather and how would I want them to be treated and cared for. So that is why I make sure that my clients or cared for and are happy when I am there and when I leave and hopefully they are happy to see me when they see me again. Sometimes they just would someone there to talk to and listen to them.

I discovered my passion for care giving after my uncle was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. I love being a caregiver and have a passion for helping others and making a difference. I am proud of myself for receiving my certificate in Pharmacy Tech with outstanding grades. I come from working in a health care agency as a administrative assistant back in 2020 before covid started. I then decided to enter a rehabilitation/ nursing center in March 2020 as a hospitality aide. Was aiming for my CNA but covid had just began and all my exams got postponed and schools closed. In October 2021 I decided to go for a caregiver job and honestly I love it more than working at an office. I love the job I do now I don't mind helping with their daily needs. I was a stay at home mom prior to working as a caregiver that doing a caregiver job to be was the easiest job ever. The Clients I've had are pretty content with me and that I couldn't be more happy about. I regret not looking into this field since the beginning. It's amazing.

Hello! My name is Erica, I'm 23 years old and I'm currently attending nursing school. I became a certified nursing assistant out of high school during the summer of 1990. From there I continued consistent care within two Residential Care Facilities one was long-term Elderly Care II was Alzheimer's and Dementia. Following that for a consistent six years I worked within and Rehabilitation Unit at a local hospital that provided physical occupational and speech language therapy. After this time. I chose to stay home and raise my family for 5 years with my husband. Shortly after I slowly began getting back into the nursing assistant caregiving field which allowed me to work around my family schedule with flexibility.
