I have been a stay at home mom for 23 years. I spent a few years caring for my grandma while trying to keep her in her home as long as possible as her health deteriorated due to dementia. I've volunteered in a number of capacities but always wanted to find things that kept my evenings and weekends open for my family. I enjoy playing and listening to music, crocheting, quilting, reading, taking walks, the Michigan beaches and spending time with my family and friends. I am pretty laid back and fun loving but I also like a good plan and organization.
I was born in Lansing MI, and at two I moved to Grand Rapids, I went to Eastern Elementary School and then to Creston High School. I took up Machine Shop and Architectural Drawing. I was the oldest of 12 children. After high school I took a Tool & Die Apprenticeship. I also worked as a volunteer for the fire department. I built a house in Sparta Township where I live with my wife. I retired from Tool Die 2010 because of cancer. Then I started volunteering at Rest Haven Homes which ended up in a paid position. I enjoy making some one happy and to do the things they enjoy and also to be a companion and a friend. I have been a caregiver for 20 years. It is the most satisfying thing I have ever done. I put the physical and mental needs of my client at the top of my list. They is nothing that I have not done from the BP to washing there clothes. My highest accomplishment was to be their with a client until she left this world. The calm that was on her face gave me joy and sadness. I truly believe that this is the one way I can give back to the ones that truly deserve and want it.
