We are seeking a compassionate, reliable independent caregiver to assist our loved one who has dementia and is currently on hospice care. Because we are looking to bridge the morning and evening transitions, this position is a split shift running 6 days a week. We are looking for a dedicated professional who lives locally and is comfortable with short, focused visits. Hours/Schedule: Days: 6 days per week (Schedule to be discussed; can be Monday through Saturday, or include Sundays with one floating day off). Total: 3 hours per day (18 hours per week total). Morning Shift: 1.5 hours (e.g., 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM) – Focus on gentle waking, breakfast, and morning routine. Bedtime Shift: 1.5 hours (e.g., 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM) – Focus on winding down, changing, and safe transfer to bed. Key Responsibilities: AM Routine: Gently assist with waking, checking/changing for incontinence, skin checks, gentle dressing into comfortable clothes, and preparing/feeding a soft breakfast. PM Routine: Manage late-day confusion (sundowning) with a calm demeanor, assist with transitioning into sleepwear, and ensure a safe, comfortable tuck-in. Mobility & Transfers: Safely assist with transferring in and out of bed. Collaboration: Work peacefully alongside our active hospice team (the hospice nurse and hospice aide handle all clinical care and specialized bathing). Required Qualifications: Direct, verifiable experience caring for patients with moderate-to-advanced dementia. Experience or high comfort level with end-of-life/hospice care. Strong skills in safe physical transfers (experience with gait belts or transfer assists a plus). Exceptional reliability, patience, and a gentle, low-stimulation communication style. Must pass a comprehensive background check and provide at least two professional references from previous families.
