My dad is in the end stages of ALS. He is a quadriplegic and has limited speech, and uses a Tobii device to communicate. He is currently enduring respiratory issues associated with ALS. We understand that he does not have much longer, but he is wanting to live as long and as fully as possible. We need someone to come in and perform his morning and night routines, which require getting him out of/into bed and into/out of his power chair, washing his face, brushing his teeth, taking him to the bathroom if necessary, and doing periodic bed baths. He is 160+ lbs and will require someone who is strong enough to lift him with or without supports (we do possess an electric hoyer lift for emergencies). My dad is cool and collected, and very easy to get along with. If you accept this position, you will mostly be communicating with my mother -- who works from home and is his primary caregiver -- regarding scheduling and changes in care. Any leads for this position will be directed to her for an interview. We are hoping to hire someone who can see our family through to the end of my dad's life. Each routine takes approximately an hour-and-a-half to two hours. We are open to taking multiple applicants for different time slots. Male caregivers are preferred, though we will take either gender based on skill level. We are looking for someone who is reliable, competent, and compassionate.
