I also drove them home each night and helped them into their homes. On Saturdays we would drive around and provide them lunch. Many of the older people at the facility were unable to cook. As my mother developed Dementia I helped her adjust. It took humility and humor and I think it made me into a person I respected. After she passed away I became a professional caregiver because I loved the special bond that grows between the client and the caregiver. I see it as an honor to make the transition less uncomfortable for someone adjusting to losing their independence. I am not perfect but I do attempt, to the best of my ability to do things exactly as my client would want them done. The family is often very shaken up by the prospect of hiring a caregiver and the client finds it difficult to have someone in their home so I really try to fit into their life quietly and efficiently. I am happily careful to keep kosher or vegan or diabetic or heart healthy dietary guidelines. I stick to the care plan and I organize one if there isn't one. What I don't know I research.
