When I was applying for different kind of jobs (manufacturing, warehouse) where I had more than 15 years experience, I was offer a position as caregiver of a lovely 90 years old lady, we got along since the first moment and became her part time cg. I found out that I have that special touch so much needed when working with elderly. I treat them with respect. I know it must not be easy losing your independence and if at home, seeing "strangers" coming into your house and practically take control over your stuf. That's why I like asking them (when posible) how they like things being done in their house.

I was by need that I entered this field of work. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to do it. I love taking care of elderly people, they are full of stories that enrich your life. On a day to day basis I have learned to adapt, the mood of the elderly person changes and you have to make the best out of it. I have only had two women that I have taken care of, but I made sure to keep them safe and make them happy.I am proud of that!

For the last five years I have been working with the elderly and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have been told so many stories, share so many laughs, learned so many things and all while enjoying the work I do. I am a caring, patient, reliable and loyal person. Integrity is something I was raised with and it is still something that makes me who I am. Whether someone needs help with simple company or needs a little more help with bathing, getting dressed, meal prep, I am well versed in all levels of care.
When I was a caregiver for Atria I grew fond memories with the residents. I enjoyed having conversations with them, hearing them sing, or even see them dance. Even though work was busy I still managed to sit down and talk with the residents. One great memory I have was working the night shift and as I was doing my rounds I saw a resident in the dining room. The resident was pouring sugar into an empty cup. I sat down next to him and asked him if he would like a cup of coffee, so I made him one. He was very happy and singing songs.
