I became a caregiver because I love spending time with elderly people. I love being a caregiver because of the smile I can put on a patients face. A personal achievement I am proud of is bringing my mom from Virginia to Georgia to take care of her until she passed away. Some characteristics about myself are I'm a people's person, I get along well with people, I always carry myself with a smile on my face.
I have been a Caregiver in a variety of situation for 6+ years and each family I worked for called me a "member of the family"! What makes me a great caregiver? I'm extremely attentive, patient, have a calming effect on people, am trustworthy, an excellent listener and willing to work with each individual's specific needs. I became a caregiver when my father was recovering from lung cancer & had knee surgery. He required extensive care regarding mobility, physical therapy, meal planning/nutrition, prescription management, & hygiene. Additionally, he needed to know that someone really cared about him & the progress he was making. I am a very positive person with an optimistic outlook on life! I believe this is instrumental is helping one recover from any condition, physically, mentally or emotionally. I had an extensive career as a Director in Human Resources in my corporate career, where many of my transferable skills are utilized in providing care for individuals. I'm passionate about working with seniors, as I have been all of my life. I have a heart for those who need care, may be lonely, or are in transition from home or family. I love seeing changes in the lives of others when I attend to them with their very specific needs. I'm adaptable, easy to talk to & get people talking, so they begin to feel a connection with others, rather than isolated or alone. I've provided care to my grandfather, whose life was transitioning painfully with bone cancer. One of my greatest achievements was to see his pain managed not only through medication, but listening to him recall his life's stories, reading to him his favorite, National Geographic, & providing him with all the personal touches that alleviated the inevitable suffering that comes with this type of cancer. I am certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, and BLS. I will care for your loved one just as I would one of my own parents, with understanding, being present and available for whatever they need.
I put my heart into what I do, especially when taking care of people. I put myself in people's 'shoes', and treat them the way I would want to be treated. I will like someone to take care of me when I'm incapable of doing so myself. I enjoy the self satisfaction of helping people have a better quality of life. I love hearing the positive feedbacks from my clients and employers!
Being a member of Rotary international, I have worked the old, the sick, the physically challenged. As a Roterian I have travelled wide to give a helping hand where it is needed and I still do so till today and that is one of the reasons I became a caregiver. Iam compassionate,I like to listen to my clients and encourage them to live as independently as possible but I'm always at hand to support them and make them as comfortable as possible . I like putting smiles on my faces when I help to make them comfortable and take care of them as much as I can.
I have been working in the medical for about 20 years and have worked and different hospital setting. I am experience in patients with different type of illness such as: mental health, neurological, dementia, Parkinson, cardio, physical disability, post surgery just to name a few. I am reliable, loving, compassionate, and patience and caring. I love to read to my patient and share stories with them. I am a certified Nursing Assistant and CPR and First Aid certified.
I am a caring happy loving person who loves to help and interact with others. At the age of 16 I was my grandmothers caregiver and would care for her before and after school. I was also my quadriplegic cousins caregiver just recently in addition to many others whom I met through the agencies that I worked. I am also a single mother of two young adults whom I adopted when they were babies and between the two of them they had at least 10 doctor appointments a month and my youngest 19 year old, was diagnosed at 15 with Type-1 diabetes. He still lives at home and has taught me so much about the disease that I have taken the steps to preventive care for myself. I love that when I care for others I learn how to individualize understanding and care practices because everyone is unique and special. I believe my personal achievement that I am most proud of is being the single mom of my two adopted children and still able to care for them and learning from their life experiences that directly and indirectly impact them. Also the unconditional love that has grown in and through me.
