I have a passion for helping others. I wanted to make a difference in the life of someone who was ill. Being able to bring some happiness to those in need. Being chosen as a lead aid, to be able to train new caregivers.

What makes me a great caregiver is my organization and ablity to multitask, I'm a reliable person. I enjoy people and treat people with respect. I've been a caregiver for 30+ years the reason I became a caregiver is, it's given is the ability to help other people, live the best posible life they can live. What I enjoy the most is watching people smile and heal. The thing I'm most proud of is raising my 4 children to be healthy young men.

Caregiving isn't for everyone, you have to have a great love for it and your clients! I've received Employee of the Month and Nurse Delegation certificate. I work for 2 locations under my company because I enjoy working so much! I truly enjoy the people I work for! I enjoy cleaning, organizing, grocery shopping, helping people get around and anything else I'm able to assist with! I love animals too!

Over 20 yrs experience caring for people of all ages and abilities. 5+ yrs as a CNA in PDX first working in a small facility for people w/ HIV/AIDS then onto temping at LTC Facilities all over PDX. 18 years working for UCP, OR w/ adults w/ CP & intellectual disabilities. 5+ yrs as an "Enhanced Worker" HCW doing in-home care for Aging & Disability Services. Now certified in WA as a HCA to work in-homes. Additional interests & education include: Cosmetology, Naturopathic Assistant & Juice Bar Manager. Study Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan & Meditation. Some massage school experience too. Strong interest in Nutrition and Whole Foods Cooking & Herbs. I believe we are here to help and learn from one another and I chose caregiving because it allows me to really thrive while hopefully uplifting or at least easing the lives of those I work with.

I'm a people person. I'm flexible and compatible with, I would say, just about every personality type. Just for the simple fact that I accept people for who they are and where they are. I like to say, essentially, I will meet them where they're at in life. What attracted me to being a caregiver is my desire to help people live as free and independent as possible. I enjoy being a caregiver because I love people and their company and I love hearing their stories of where they've been and what they've done. I think what I love most about being a caregiver is just the fact that I'm empowered to give a piece of myself to someone, to hopefully make their life better or more comfortable. I have a lot of achievements, but I think the one that I'm most proud of is the one where I had a client who would not allow anyone to draw their blood or do any kind of testing on them that was really necessary to make things better for them and get them a proper health care assessment. But, they were willing to put down their guard for me. Because of me they allowed work to be done and I can't tell you how thrilled I was that I would have that effect on somebody.

My journey thus far has been on the whole, wonderful. I have had the honor to meet some amazing people I wouldn't normally have met . I have been able to further my knowledge and skills set by being given free training on a range of different subjects I love surrounding people with care. I was hired by my previous employer and worked with them for three years. I've learned how important compassion and acceptance is for Alzheimer's patients. Using gentle redirection, I've seen how a well-organized day that's flexible can help to reduce agitation." I most enjoy getting to know my clients and listening to their life stories. My experience as a caregiver has helped me to grow into someone that is a compassionate person with a willing heart to help others. The experience that has helped me the most is being there for one person while their health declined. Although this is a hard thing to see it reminded me to be grateful of my own health and was an honor to be present for the family in such a sensitive time. I enjoy making connections with the people that I am with and learning all that I can from their stories and experiences. It is a great privilege to be a comfort and helping hand to others.

I am a certified nursing assistant. I have 6 years experience under my certification and over 10 years of caregiving experience. I have did in home care both professional and personal care of family/friends age groups ranging from young children to the elderly population. I am currently in school finishing up my Bachelors in Healthcare Administration and soon hoping to open my own care home in the near future. I enjoy being able to help people in there time of need whether it is during recovery, sudden health changes or end of life.
