To be a great caregiver, you have to have the qualities of compassion, honestly, respect, empathy, and patience. Looking back at myself as a child, I was always drown to others who had no friends, or were look down upon, like our smart and intelligent neighbor with down syndrome, I found myself standing up for him, even to confront his father who was ashamed of him. And he started to pay attention to his son and later thanks me. Been in my later teen, I didn't realize why he thanked me for until later when I became a caregiver. I remember my mom and dad's words of wisdom. Your character is like your shadow, it never goes away, but you can do better with positive example. Physical and emotional pain leads to negativity, rejection and anger, a little bit of kindness and empathy revised the action to normalcy. no one is perfect, but don't give up on doing your best to being perfect. Remind yourself everyday that others are as special and unique like you, regardless of their condition and be kind. Then you'll feel the joy of gratitude .

I became a Caregiver because I needed the certification for another job that I thought I would be well suited for. I thought I would fair out well as a Lab Tech for one of the local mental hospitals. Not long after I'd graduated from the CNA program and had begun working as a Lab Tech in the hospital clinic, I discovered the hospital was due to close in less than a year ; there were no openings at any of the sister branches. I took a job with a visiting nurse agency as a Phlebotomist / CNA. Although they had more CNA work than Phlebotomy, I needed a job and lacked experience. The job also offered a year long course in disease management coaching and had good benefits. As time passed, I began to work in other areas of caregiving to see what my specialty might be and decided I liked working with seniors; they seemed to have tons of life experience and didn't mind sharing it ( I often found myself wondering if should've been paying them for all they taught me - important things about life I never even thought of !), They seemed to really appreciate anything I did for them. I find the intrinsic value of serving the elders rewarding. Since discovering what my passion is, I've done nothing else.
