I was 15 years old and just started my freshman year of high school when I was placed in a class called Intergenerational Studies. For 2 hours each day I was taken to the nursing home called Golden Years there in Elgin, Tx. I started off just getting residents from their rooms to come and do activities with me. But it wasn't long and I was working side by side with CNAs, RNs, and at one point the DON had me shadow her for 2 weeks. I just got really interested and a few years after graduation and having my son, I pursued a CNA certification and was assigned the hospice hall and the "lockdown unit" which was occupied by the more violent patients and those with conditions such as Alzheimer's and/or parkinson's, as well as those with behavioral health conditions. I honestly just fell in love with everything about caring for the elderly. Even the hard and very emotional side of the care I provide is something I wouldn't want to stop doing. I would love to get my CNA back but just haven't attempted to do so since my husband passed in 2011. Since my high school days I have worked with all ages of people, from a 2 year old little princess to a 98 year old gentleman I referred to as Fred Astaire due to them looking like twins. He loved it and would smile so big when I walked in every day; and every day he would say "Good morning Ms. Judy (Garland). You feel like dancing the day away?" It's things like that for which I love my work. Please feel free to ask anything, I would love to tell everything now but there is just so much I've been blessed to have experienced with so many different people I'd never be done.

Hi. I am a retired RN with 26yrs experience. I have experience in acute care, home health care, hospice and long term care. I have also worked with Alzheimers/memory care patients. Vast nursing knowledge in post surgical care, medication management and comfort care.

I have been in the healthcare field since 1993. I enjoy taking care of people and making life easier. I have worked in Nursing homes,Private sitting and home health care. I know how to lift,shower,feed,cook,clean and listen. That's the first part of taking care of someone. Listen to what they need or what even if they can't communicate.

Enjoy caring for the elderly. Very active with patient if they are mobile and able to be taken out. I've had patients I've taken to the movies, walking trails, lake, gone boating, shopping, out to eat, and basically get them out of the house to enjoy their day. If they are home bound I've baked with them some of their own recipes they may have. Because I love to bake from scratch. Cook, clean, and just spend time with them. I feel some don't have long why not make their last days good.

I became a caregiver, because I love spending time with people and helping them through whatever there going through. My best achievement wass becoming a mother, I have two beautiful children and I wouldnt trade them for the world. My name is LaDetra Newton, I am 27yrs old, I have two children, my son is 7, and my daughter is 3. I am currently living with my family until I can get on my feet.

I am a very compassionate caregiver. I became a nurse because I absolutly loved the one on one care I provide. It was very difficult when i had a car accident and could no longer work in the hospital setting. I am very proud that I graduated with a 3.8 on the presidents honor roll. I am also very proud of all the accolades I have personally recieved for my nursing care. I would really love the oppertunity to be your care taker.

My reasoning to become a care giver would be my grandma who was a nurse in the U.S. Navy. She was respected by all because she was the best at what she did. I learned a lot from her growing up. I love being able to help people who need the help. It makes me feel so good about myself knowing I am doing what my grandma taught me as well as I know even if it is a small impact in someone's life it makes me feel great. The most proudest achievement I have made was when I did my intern at a nursing home when I got my CNA and looking at those people's faces glow when I walked into their room or the compliments I got just because I sat there to listen to their stories or whatever they might have needed even if it was small. I learned a lot working there. It was a great experience in itself.
