After a massive Corporate downsizing, I have changed careers and turned to the Healthcare field. I have over 30 years experience taking care of family and clients, ranging from neonatal, special needs including quadriplegia, to hospice care. The last 20 years have also included dementia/stroke, oxygen, TPN, feeding tubes and post operative care. In addition, I have also been asked by 2 clients to become their personal assistant. This included travel to the grocery store, doctor appointments, downsizing homes, moving packing and unpacking, traveling across country and also property managed my clients home while it was on the market to sell. For people with high levels of care needed, my support in invaluable. Treating them with attentive, proper, and respectful care is a significant role to ensure they retain their dignity and independence during the latter stages of life. For me, helping seniors and others is a great accomplishment and feels highly rewarding, knowing that I could turn a unbearable day into a great one. Caregiving taught me knowledge from listening to experiences and stories one might gladly share. Memories are priceless and can give a wonderful insight and transport you to a time from a person's different perspective. To me, having that kind of opportunity gives life more meaning.
