After a massive Corporate downsizing, I have changed careers and turned to the Healthcare field. I have over 30 years experience taking care of family and clients, ranging from neonatal, special needs including quadriplegia, to hospice care. The last 20 years have also included dementia/stroke, oxygen, TPN, feeding tubes and post operative care. In addition, I have also been asked by 2 clients to become their personal assistant. This included travel to the grocery store, doctor appointments, downsizing homes, moving packing and unpacking, traveling across country and also property managed my clients home while it was on the market to sell. Single mom of a teenager Started caregiving 6 years ago The people I have met has made me a stronger person and I love what I do, love the variety of people I have met , but in this job you have to be very patient and know how to deal with a lot of challenges and behaviors, are jobs aren't easy and you have to deal with stressful situations and know how to deal with them , every year we have to take are annual Training and refresher courses, my main specialty is Dementia and Alzheimer's disease, but that's why I love my job to help people and sometimes they need to someone to talk too, or just a shoulder to cry on, being a single parent makes me stronger in doing my job and know I have someone to live for and help older clients in there daily lives and endeavors.

I was brought on into caregiving because of my brother John, who is quadriplegic, and a handful when he knew I would be around. I learned a lot through specific classes, yet also a lot just by him instructing me. I enjoy my work because it is a passion of mine to give great service to those who cant, but also I've seen what bad or mediocre service can do in the long run. A personal achievement of mine, that I am proud of, was spending a year and 6 months in Biloxi, MS helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

What got me into this career was my grandma. Before she passed away, I was always there to help her with everything she needed. I'm very good with people and have great work ethic skills. I also have a lot of patience and compassion. What attracted me to be being a caregiver was when i was 18 my mother worked for a company taking care of adults with mental disabilities and always talked about how rewarding it was.
