I started out caregiving while caring for my grandmother about 15 years ago. The time we spent together was a wonderful bonding experience and I wanted to continue with that feeling of accomplishment I get when helping someone and knowing I am making a positive difference in their lives.

Becoming a Caregiver was out of necessity, to fulfill one woman's simple request of not being placed into a nursing home. She had had a challenging childhood: daily nourishment often was tea and bread; coats were used as blankets during the evening. She persevered during her marriage, raising a brood of children while being the dutiful wife. So, when called upon, it was an opportunity to give back. I have found that I have great resolve, have not floundered in my integrity, and have given care with compassion and kindness. In doing so, I have been greatly rewarded.

My over 10 years of experience has given me a clear understanding of the needs of the elderly. I am always focused on providing top notch services. I am a social person with the natural capability of providing care. I am compassionate, trustworthy and dependable. I do not have a criminal record. In fact I worked for the Comm of Mass for 30 yrs right out Of High School. I am now retired at 51.. When I was a teenager my grandmother became very ill and as a family we decided the best course of action would be to have her come live in our home with us. We were able to receive services that came to our home to feed her or clean up or give her a sponge bath but we never seem to be satisfied with the caregivers we received and I continuously found myself doing the work myself to make sure she was happy and comfortable. I then realized that I had a passion to help people who could no longer help themselves. I became a caregiver because I saw the the impact that my one on one care and attention provided my grandmother with when she wasn't feeling well or was simply having a bad day and needed cheering up. Over the years I have come to realize that in my opinion the best place for an elderly person to be is home or in the home of loved ones..I also realized that help from experienced professionals is also needed. As a PCA one of the things I like most about my job is helping someone or a family come up with a tailor made plan of care that works best for everyone.

1.) I became a caregiver because at a young age my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I watched her battle through and eventually she lost the war. On top of the cancer my nana also had a brain tumor, epilepsy, and high blood pressure that needed to be monitored daily. Helping her through her battle and watching her go through her ups and downs gave me the drive I needed to pursue a career in the health field. 2.) What I like mainly about being a caregiver is being able to help others and having success stories. Being able to help others and seeing them be happy even if its for a short period of time makes it well worth it. 3.) A personal achievement that i am proud of is applying and being accepted into a Medical Assistant program. I am proud that not only did I finish the program but i graduated with honors. 4.) Something about myself: I love what I do. The career that I have chosen for myself fulfills me in ways that are indescribable. I love people, I love being able to strike up a conversation about anything to anyone. I am a very family oriented person, my mom has 2 other sisters and my father is 1 of 10 children so family is very important to me. I am the oldest of 3 and have a half sister that is 4. My youngest brother also just had a baby so I have a 9 month old nephew that I couldn't picture life without.
