I became a caregiver when I went back to college to get my BA in 2015. I had no idea how rewarding it would be or how well it would suit me! As a mother of a 1st grader and the daughter of elderly parents, I have more experience than my employment in the field would suggest. I am a naturally caring, trustworthy, and empathetic person. Being a caregiver means helping someone live their life to the fullest extent possible in a happy healthy environment. In my last year of college, I concentrated on social gerontology and my senior thesis was on age-segregation of the elderly. I am especially proud the genealogy researched for my last client. She was so pleased to have that record of her family's history and it was a project we could enjoy together.

I enjoy caring for others. I worked at my mothers daycare from the age of 14 and after I had my own children, in every aspect of the facility. I have cared for 2 elderly ladies, the latest, for almost 3 years. I am very nurturing, caring and patient. I am most proud of my ability to study and go online to find the source of something that was bothering her. I even diagnosed a condition she had due to her blindness, called Charles Bonnet Syndrome. I found a support group and connected her with a man who suffered the same syndrome and they became phone pals, talking weekly. This gave her such joy as she lived to be 96 and all of her friends had passed. When she had other issues, I'd go online and find out what we needed to adjust in her diet or use in bathing her to alleviate her discomfort. She was very appreciative and said I always was the one who would go extra lengths to make her comfortable.

I have over 15+ years caring for the elderly and those with disabilities. I understand and embrace the importance of having patience and compassion for the state of my patient's mental and physical status. I enjoy placing myself in the position to motivate and stimulate my clients with positive energy to help those hard days and promote long lasting good days. With knowing and experiencing Dementia on many different levels, I do understand the importance of knowing how to adapt and/or redirect stressful situations. I enjoy what I do. I became a Caregiver when I was in the 7th grade actually, I am now 54 year's old and have been working in the health care field for 14 year's now.
