First of all I must say that since I have been a caregiver I have learned a lot of things as far as being patient, how to truly love and care about someone , because when you are with someone for a long period of time you really get to know that person and become so close to them and once they are gone it really gets to your heart . Hello. I have been a caregiver in Oakmont, an adult community in Santa Rosa since June 2015. I have worked with clients who suffered strokes, falls, dementia, cancer, back surgeries and just about everything in between. Prior to Oakmont, I worked for different hospices in Walnut Creek and San Luis Obispo while raising my family. I genuinely enjoy working with clients in their final stages of life. They have taught me so much about how to live fully despite the inevitable limitations of aging. Some days are better than others for all of us. I have been a care giver for over 30 years now. It started when I was 17 years old working in a neighborhood coffee shop that seniors dined at regularly. I would overhear them speaking of tasks they could not take care of around their house by themselves. That's when I started offering to come over after work to help them. Then sometimes a husband would come in without a wife or a wife without a husband and I would ask where the other one was, they would reply they were sick at home. I would then asked if I could do anything or check in on them and they really appreciated it. Eventually I gave up my job at the coffee shop and became a full time caregiver. I love working with people while it makes a difference in their life.
