I am prior military. While attending grossmont college, I was the president of the student veterans organization. I thought it would be a great idea, back in 2008, to have our veterans go into the community and help in assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities. After seeing how short staffed, over worked, under paid, and how these patients felt, I knew I needed to help. My children and I would paint their nails, do their hair, play bingo, assist in sporting events like the, in-house Kentucky Derby, with stick horses, play music, feed them and provide comfort during the holidays, make mobiles for patients one their ceilings, for the ones that could not get out of bed, and provide comfort for so many people that do not have family or friends to visit them.

When I was young , being a help to others wa s very important to me. Witnessing suffering when I could make a difference was the reason for my choice to be a Medical Professional and I went to college to be a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I worked in the Heart Clinic at St Luke's Regional Medical Ctr in Boise Idaho, the Heart Transplant unit in Salt Lake City, Utah; and an LTAC Center in the San Francisco area for individuals who were difficult to wean off the ventilator and move on with their lives. A very rewarding history and it was a joy to see each patient go home with a new lease on life and move forward.

I love the fulfillment I receive by being a care giver. My first job, off the farm, was as a CNA in a retirement home. There I cared for one of several wings full of elderly people all with various levels of need. I have found that working with the elderly and being able to bring stability and comfort to their daily lives, the most rewarding job I've ever had. I take care of elderly couples in their 90's to ensure their life quality at home. Love my references.... Today, my grandma is still living independently in a very large home; at the age of 99; that she has maintained for many years. With some outside help, such as myself, she is able to go on living there instead of a retirement home. I look forward to working with my clients and see how I can make things safe and capable for them. I've also come to realize, that even a person, my own age, can have so many needs too and with just the right person to assist with the activities of daily living, makes all the difference in the world to so many people.

What makes me an excellent caregiver? I've spent many years working in hospitals and cancer patients, physicians offices, nursing homes, and private home care. The many teams I've worked with and amazing patients with so many varied needs have only strengthened my desire to care for others! I treat people as I would want to be treated...it really is that simple. Kindness, compassion, humor, experience, courage and strength are what I bring to every job.

I found my passion for healthcare through giving birth to my son and the amazing help everyone provided to me during such a stressful time. My love and strive to be a caregiver I got from seeing my grandmother switch to and from nursing homes. There were some good ones and there were some terrible ones. Seeing the ones who treated her terrible like she wasn't a person and hearing how it hurt her, that is why I chose to do caregiving. Working with people in a home care. Or residental setting can be challenging but also rewarding at the same time. To be s successful caregiver it not only takes book smarts but a few essential qualties only certain people have that makes them stand away from the rest. I posess the following qualities and that is why I feel I stand out from the rest. it is essential that a caregiver feel the desire to want to help. By showing both empathy and compassion i am letting my resident know that they care about the person and want to do what they can to help them. Make them feel important and at that moment the most important. Patience. Is a virtue many do not posess. When you work with someone who is depending on you to help them with things they can no longer do it is important that you are patient and understanding. It helps to sometimes put yourself in the other person's shoes and see what it might be like to ask people for help. When a person is rushed that is when mistakes happen and injuy and accident occur. I am someone that can be counted on to be there. If I says i am going to be there to provide cares every Thursday morning, then inwill be there every Thursday unless there is an emergency. Those needing home care services need a reliable and dependable caregiver. Trustworthy. Most people need care services are in a vulnerable position. They are inviting someone into their home/room to be near their valuables. A good caregiver is someone who is trustworthy in this regard, as well as in being trusted to keep the client's information confidential. Flexible. As with most things in life, home care needs may change and unexpected events can happen. A good caregiver will be prepared to go with the flow, being flexible, so that they continue to provide good caregive, even if a rigid schedule isn't being followed.
