I enjoy the ability to help others, to gain knowledge form the elderly. I became a caregiver a few years after my grandmother was put in a nursing home. I saw the love and compassion she received and this inspired me to want to help the elderly and disabled. I got my CNA when I was 18 and my EMT when I was 20. I am proud to say I have helped an number of sweet people and they in turn have taught me so much. As a mother of two children, I want to show them that loving, caring and respect of all ages, ethnicity will make this world a better place.
I care for my clients in the manner in which I would want my loved ones cared for. My goal is to bring my unique gifts of patience, caring, respect, joy, humor, dignity and compassion in providing dependable home care. I believe better care begins at home. I like to think that I make a great caregiver for many reasons. I know when to just listen, when to chit chat. I like to make sure all appointments are made and met with all the information needed. I have kept a running list of blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, oxygen levels, and temperature for the doctors as well as for the family information. This is also great information to keep in mind if your loved one may be getting ill or maintaining. I truly like to be able to sit with someone and make them feel as if they are just having a visit with someone that can help them as well. I enjoyed being able to do memory work too...looking through all photos and talking about them, talking about her history from growing up to now, working on memory games. The lady I took care of had dementia, but we made no mention of it to her, but made sure she felt as if her life as no different as it was before she had dementia. I enjoyed being able to take her for her weekly pleasure trip for getting her hair done and getting her weekly sub. I made sure that I picked up her groceries, air filters, medications and any other needs to even include mini blinds, pet spa visits. I made sure she took her meds and found a method that made her appear as self sufficient as possible. I also made sure to care for the dog, the dogs meds, water, playtime.
I helped my mother during her breast cancer and lung cancer diagnosis. So care giving is very personal to me. I have worked the past 5 years assisting 4 individuals with specials needs. I assisted with medications, grooming, personal hygiene, meal prep and feeding. I also was responsible for household chores. I took my clients on outings and to doctors appointments. I also was over their finances. Now that my mother has passed I really would like to give back to other people and help those who need it. I know how hard the responsibility is of caring for a family member and everyone needs help.
