I became a caregiver when I was 12 years old. My best friend was diagnosed with MS and MD at a very young age and she happened to be 64 years old at that time. We bonded immediately and talked daily. One day we were attending our weekly meeting at our place of worship and her usual caregiver could not be found. She needed help going to the restroom, I volunteered to help and I did everyday until her death at the age of 69 on January 31, 2013. I am blessed to have had the greatest connection and friendship that guides me in everything I do. She was a supernatural, phenomenal woman . She taught me how to smile, be kind and to love unconditionally. She is the reason my kindness never fails or crumbles. I am proud that over the years I have made many more friends and have learned such valuable lessons by just listening and observing my elders.

A family member of mine got hurt in the military when I was 13 and I started learning and working with him and my aunt daily to make a lil money. I have became so passionate about my love and care I have for all my patients, I want them to be treated as if it was my family member in the situation. Academics and athletics were made an important part of my life as a youth and adolescent. These values of continuous education and athletics, along with my faith, are still the driving principles of my life. I graduated from Cedartown Comprehensive High School in 1983 and finished in the top ten percent of my class. I was chosen as captain of the football, wrestling and track teams. My teammates chose me for the award of Mr. Bulldog and Most Valuable Player. The coaches association named me to the 7-AAA All-Area and All-State Team. After graduation, I attended the University of West Georgia where I played Defensive End / Linebacker at the collegiate level. I am married to Mindy Mathis Surrett of Rome, Georgia. My wife teaches Advanced Calculus and coaches the swim team at Cartersville High School. She also teaches Calculus at Georgia Highlands College. I became a caregiver to help those who cannot help themselves because of sickness , disease, or any other problems.I like to think I made a difference in their lives being a caregiver.My personal achievement is the praise I get from the previous patients who tell myself and others the good care that I gave them in their time of need.
