I have spent 27 years as a caregiver. I am a special education teacher and have taught/taken care of infants, preschoolers, K-12 and most recently my elderly father who was very frail with Dementia. I took him out of a full time care facility in CA to have him live with us on our farm here in KY. His favorite thing to do was to help feed the animals or socialize our animal babies.
I thrive when taking care of others and I absolutely loved taking care of my dad, even though he wasn't necessarily the same dad that I knew growing up. He was very vulnerable and self conscious about his difficulties and I did everything I could to make him feel like we needed him here to help on the farm.
