what attracted me to being a caregiver is talking to and helping the residents you really get to no the person and i think thats what I enjoy the most . As long as the resident is happy thats what makes me proud of myself to see the smiles on the person face.

Hello, my name is Karen Palmer. I started doing in-home health care in 2010. I knew at an early age that working in the healthcare field was something that I wanted to do. I believe it is my calling from God. Therefore, I put my all into the care I provide for each individual. A few of my personality traits are caring, compassionate, understanding, loyal, and trustworthy. What attracted me to becoming a caregiver is both of my parents were CNAs, and as a child, they often took us to visit their job. I can remember sitting there watching the residents and feeling the need to help. It has always been in my heart to help those in need, and I was placed on earth to care for those individuals when needed. The things I enjoy the most about being a caregiver are knowing I did my best to help someone and seeing how thankful they are that I could help. The personal achievements that I am most proud of are returning back to school, receiving a High School Diploma, and graduating from college with an Associate degree. I did something I never thought about doing, and I did it for my children and myself. I couldn't be more proud of myself for setting goals and seeing them through to the end.

What attracted me to becoming a caregiver is watching the nurses take care of my mom as she was passing from cancer. I love seeing the smiles on clients faces whenever I can make them happy. I'm proud of sticking to the health care field through covid.

After my first caregiving position, I knew right away that this is what I am meant to do. I was impressed at how natural it came to me. Knowing that what I'm doing is helping others and making their lives better, putting a smile on their face, is what attracts me into this field of work. I enjoy getting to know each resident I care for. Each one of them have their own unique and amazing personalities that I feel lucky to be around. I have been caregiving for over eight years, and working hard allowed me to become a supervisor. It has been one of the most rewarding accomplishments I've achieved.

I have been a certified caregiver since 1982. I was among the first batch of caregivers trained by the American Red Cross in 1982. I am a very sympathetic and empathic person. I am also very patient.
