Hello my name is Demeteries Hawkins. I've been a Patient Care Assistant for over 20 years. Growing up being the oldest of 6 siblings I had to be the caregiver due to my mother working long hours as a nurse. In my adult life I've had many jobs but no fulfillment until I started caring for others. I found my purpose and calling. I truly enjoy/ love being a caregiver it brings so much joy and self gratification. My mother played a big part of why I love being a caregiver. seeing the love, she gave, and the return love played a big roll. It feels good to know that I have gained a client trust as well as the assurance that I will take care of them. To see them smile or just help them through a rough day knowing that they can count on me is a great reward. I've had a client I had just started with ask me, is this just a job or do you care? I care about what I do. This is one of the biggest questions that a client or family member has when looking for a caregiver. Staying positive, going beyond the call of duty, compassionate, caring, outgoing, patience, etc. To have the opportunity to care for your loved one or self would be a privilege and a blessing.

I'm a very easy going person, I've been a CNA over 20 plus years. I treat my clients as though we're family or the way I want my mother to be treated. What attracted my to caregiving, was having compassion for others. I most enjoy about caregiving is getting to know my clients and/or their family. My personal achievement is loving the care I give and knowing I'm doing my best.

I became a caregiver because, I like taking care of the elder as I use to do for my grandmother. As they grow older they are more cheerful and like someone to be around them. i have achieve a lot as a caregiver, making my residents warm, comfortable and happy. I love to be a caregiver because my grandparents was very old and I took good care of them ,I love to be around Senior citizen because I love them so much also love old stories. This is what I do Assisting with personal care: bathing and grooming, dressing, toileting, and exercise Basic food preparation: preparing meals, shopping, housekeeping, laundry, and other errands General health care: overseeing medication and prescriptions usage, appointment reminders and administering medicine Mobility assistance: help with getting in and out of a wheelchair, car or shower Personal supervision: providing constant companionship and general supervision Transportation: driving to and from activities, running errands, and help getting in and out of wheelchair-accessible vehicle Emotional support: being a stable companion and supporter in all matters personal, health-related and emotional Care for the elderly: orienting or grounding someone with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, relaying information from a doctor to family members Back-up care (or respite) services: providing other caregivers a break Home organization: help with organizing, packing or cleaning for a trip, or general house care and cleaning Health monitoring: following a care plan and noticing any changes in the individual's health, recording and reporting any differences I prefer weekend shifts or overnight

I'm a very compassionate person and likes to understand what my client is going through. I got a lot of patience that attracted me to be a caregiver. I love to put myself in my patient's shoes and identify and ease the patient's fears or discomfort. I'm passionate and love what I do that's why most of my clients likes me because they can depend on me anytime. I'm fully vaccinated.
