When I came to the USA my friend told me about being a caregiver and I became interested. I have worked at Long term care facilities and Adult family homes. I have about 32 years of experience being a caregiver. I use to own my own Caregiver agency but, it took me away from providing personal care to my clients, I decided to give that up so I could work closer with the client. I've provided care for individuals with MS. I currently work part time for the State of Washington as a certified Care Giver & I have a couple of part time clients . I feel & have been told I'm a great caregiver because I think of others first, filling the needs of others before myself. I think the best way to be a affective caregiver is to really have consideration for the fact that, it could sometimes be Very humiliating having someone to provide care for you & to treat others as you want to be treated. I always talk to my clients and helping them to see that I do understand how it feels to be able to once have done things for yourself and now to have to rely on someone else. I also forgot to mention that I have a daughter who lives with me, she's now 30 and she's been on dialysis for about 10 years and so I have quite a bit of experience in the medical field. I was also certified as a CNA for about 20 years I am not currently certified but, have loads of experience working with the elderly, I've worked on my own, in nursing homes & hospitals. I've worked for the State of California in a Veterans home for about 10 years just prior to me coming to Seattle. I've been in Seattle for 14 years.

So far, I've been doing a caregiving job for seniors , provides care one on one in which I enjoyed to do. I have been working with seniors with different kind of illnesses for 10+ years experienced. I loved my job so much so I decided to pursued my dreams as a caregiver and furthermore took some classes and became a CNA. After that, I realized that after I became a Nurse Assistant it was not only about making money ,but the value of worked and effort you put in was rewarding than I thought before.To be able to help others at work ,respect patients privacy and dignity, safe environment and have a good communication has made a big difference in caregiving field where I worked. The knowledge of caregiving I had through intensive classes in the past was really helpful and made easier for me to use at my work. In addition, my experienced working with seniors has helped me to improved ones live not only in rehab facilities but in their home as well. My daughter was born in 2001 with a very rare disorder which threw me into a unexpected situation of intensive care stays, surgeries, caring for many medical conditions, learning from doctors and was trained by nurses to care for my daughter so she would not have to live at Childrens Hospital. I learned and was able to care for my child, some things very difficult on many levels. My father is a retired orthepedic sugeon and Dr and my mother was a surgical nurse . They call me \"Dr Mom\". I take this as a very big compliment with their backgrounds. My daughters experiece has made me realize I lost my calling in the medical field. I am looking to do something flexible and give care I feel I am good at. I am looking to do this because I enjoy it. I am told over and over I should seek some type of employment in this field because I am \"so nice\". I can say I have a big heart and I enjoy family, my kids, helping others. I am not able at this time to work full-time as I have older kids and schedules with them but I am looking for the right opportunity to help others and in turn feel I am giving back in life. It makes me feel good to help others and make a difference in someone else life with companionship. I am not looking to do heavy house work but don't mind doing some simple chores.

I became a caregiver as I was attending college courses in the nursing program where I live. Hospital nursing just wasn't for me as I could not look at people as just a bed number and a diagnosis.
