Hi! My name is Jeannie and I'm 34yrs old. I've been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Registered Medication Aide (RMA) for 10yrs. I grew up with my grandparents all my life and as they grew older, health problems slowly arose and I started assisting them more and more and fell into a caregiving role at a young age. My grandmother has COPD, HTN, DM, Anxiety, Neuropathy and Arthritis. My grandfather has dementia, vertigo and stage 3 renal failure. I am Now his caretaker at home, he's on hospice. I've worked in home care and assisted living care. I'm a very compassionate, caring person whose always loved helping others and knew this was my calling. I am now also looking into furthering my education and career and signing up for nursing school.
I am a 37 year old wife and mother, we currently live in Franklin County VA. Most of my education and career were spent focusing on children and the special needs population. While earning my degree in Mental Health I completed a 6 month internship in the Adult Protective Services Department and was suprised at how much I enjoyed it. I have always worked with younger clients but quickly realized that a lot of the same skills are necessary when working with the elderly. Since then I have taken care of both of my grandmothers in their final years and found it so rewarding that I have shifted my career to focus on eldercare. I have been with my current client for over 2 years but I am looking to add another part time client to my schedule.
*Patience. Those who provide home care to others need to be patient. Being patient means that the person understands that there may be changes in plans, things may not go as quickly as planned, and there may be a little hesitation at times on the part of the person receiving care. *Compassion. When someone has compassion for another they have an understanding of what the person is going through. *Attentiveness. It is important when providing home care that the caregiver is attentive to the needs and changes that are taking place. By being attentive, the caregiver, will notice when there are emotional or physical changes in the person he or she is caring for. *Dependability. Those who need home care don't usually just need it sporadically. Rather it is on a regular basis, so it is imperative that a caregiver be dependable and show up to provide the care that the person needs and is counting on. *Trustworthiness. Caregivers are often in a position that will allow them to have access to the belongings of the person they are caring for. It is crucial that the caregiver be someone who is trustworthy and will not breach that trust by taking advantage of the person her or she is caring for.

I love working with all different types of ages and people. The thing that encouraged me the most with working with older people is my grandpa my grandpa was like my dad i was close to him and when he started getting very sick It was a struggle for me and my family and for the almost 2 years + he was in and out of the hospital and I was taking care of him. Every night and day my motivation was to be right by his side through the struggles. It made me realize that I'd like to help people and that sometimes in families things get hard and people cant be there and no one deserves to be lonely. I also enjoy working with younger children I have been through a preschool program for three years and finished it. I enjoy working with animals as well I have a huge bloodhound, lab mixed who loves being outside. My motivation is just helping people and making things more comfortorting if possible.
