I come from a lineage of caregivers. My mother is a registered nurse like her mother before her. Its in my blood. I gain personal satisfaction from seeing the quality of life of those I render services to improve. I have over six years of experience working with clients with a wide range of conditions including geriatrics, total care individuals (colostomy bags, feeding tubes, Foley catheters), children, persons with mental & physical disabilities, as well as persons who have been institutionalized, & have a history of substance abuse & addiction. In my tenure in this field I have provided counseling, been an advocate for the disabled & disadvantaged, worked with individuals in meeting their short term & long term goals while helping them gain confidence within themselves & foster their own identity within their community.

Certified Nurse Assistant for 14 years and HHA recently and First aid, CPR certified also I'm hemo dialysis graduated.

I became a caregiver because my desire to help others has always been a driving force in my life. One of the things I like about being a care giver is how you have a chance to connect with the patients/clients better than anybody else you spend the most time with them. One of my personal achievements that I am proud of is when I was in the social work field, and I had been able to talk a client out of considering selling his prescribed medications to another client. In my time during my years at Johnson State College I was part of the Percussion Ensemble and the Afro-Cuban Ensemble, while I also held an independent study studying the neurological and physical effects of percussion recreation activity amongst the senior population in an adult senior center. After graduating college, I went immediately into the Social Work field where I spent a combined two years as a Case Worker working with clients under the Adult Autism Spectrum and having worked to with two seperate mental health agencies. I have a lot of experience in playing multiple roles within my positions at these agencies to help young clients with severe behavioral/mood disorders. I have been a CNA for 10 years. I have been a Phlebotomist for 5 years. I am certified for BLS.I have several years of experience in home health care. I have worked with children as young as 6 weeks and adults with various conditions. I have also worked in hospitals and nursing home facilities. I am very friendly. I know it takes time and patience with certain clients. Everyone is entitled to their own privacy and space. I am open to suggestions because my way might not be what a person is use to or familiar with so it's all about working safely and getting the job done effectively.

I believe I am a great caregiver because I enjoy helping others and I show it in my work. I became a caregiver because I enjoy the feeling that I had when I was younger helping my grandmother. She was very sick and dependent on us. While caring for her I understood the importance of the little things, such as, keeping the house clean, having conversations with her about things she enjoyed talking about and helping her accomplish tasks that she would have difficulty doing on her own. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I helped her do things, such as run errands for her and helping her around the house. I get that same feeling when I help others. I had my first child at 16, she was 26 weeks old and just below 2 pounds at birth. It was the scariest moment of my life, the doctors warned me that it will be difficult to care of her. But I still wanted to be a part of her life. She was underdeveloped and it will be a long and hard road ahead of us. I stood by her every step of the way. Through the daily visits to the NiCU; to the countless doctor and specialist appointments; the weekly early intervention visits with the coordinator, occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech therapists. It was a tough time. But we made it through, with my motivation and drive to get things done. Now she is doing well socially, academically and medically. I relocated to Florida after retiring as an RN for 30 years. I have volunterred with various programs, including food pantry after hurraine Michael. I love working with and caring for people. I have been a certified care giver for over ten years. My experiences include but are not limited to, long term care, hospital care, cardiac care, hospice care, skilled nursing home care. I have worked in hospitals as well as nursing homes. I have worked with all ages from 3-100. I have worked with the blind and disabled as well as suicidal and psychiatric awareness patients.
