I really have a passion for helping others, I started out just helping my grandmother around her house when I was 16. It's really nice to help others and elderly after most have spent their lives raising their kids and taking care of a family. I have always enjoyed taking care of others. It's where my heart is. It started when I was a little girl going to my great grandparents assisted living home. My grandmother lived with us for quite a while when I was growing up and as a young adult. I have been a caregiver for several years because I enjoy taking care of the elderly because they give me more than I give them. I'm always on time and am able to help people that really need my services. Over the years I met so many wonderful people. I worked in the business field for a long time but it wasn't fullfilling. Hello my name is Kiana Lawrence and I am going to start off by telling you a little bit about myself. I am currently a student at Grossmont Community College and my major is nursing. I am very friendly, caring, helpful, family-orientated, organized, sociable and dependent. Care-giving became my biggest inspiration in so many ways. I started off by taking care of my grandparents who were both diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My duties included things to assist them physically, mentally, and so much more. Not only did I enjoy their amazing stories and company but I enjoyed being in the position of being able to help others in need. I noticed as I got older my love for caring for the elderly has grown so much. I work very well under pressure and can always accommodate ones needs and I feel like that is why care-giving is perfect for me :).

I became a caregiver 11 years ago when I decided to leave my full time job and care for my aging parents and grandmother. My mother had been caring for my father who was a stroke patient for many years and then became responsible for my grandmother who had dementia. I could see her body getting tired and her health starting to fail so I became a caregiver for all three and I care for them until the day they died. I like being a caregiver because it gives you a chance to do a job that you have to want to do. My own personal achievement would be the care I was able to give my mother and time I took to learn how to care for her and being able to be there for her like she had been there for so many others. She went first but she went knowing that I was capable of caring for my father and grandmother just as she would have. I'm a Certified Phlebotomist /Medical Assistant and the mother of two small boys I like being a caregiver because it allows me to have a job helping people and still be and available mother to my boys.
