We are seeking a highly patient, caring, and reliable Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide daily non-medical support for our 91-year-old mother living in her own home. The ideal candidate understands the importance of emotional support and is experienced in providing safe balance assistance to prevent falls. This is a crucial role for a kind professional looking to make a genuine connection. Responsibilities & Required Tasks The primary focus is on safety, companionship, and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Mobility & Safety (Fall Prevention): Provide hands-on assistance and stand-by support while she uses her walker. This is the most important safety task. Companionship & Emotional Support: Engage in conversation, provide a calming presence, and meet her need for emotional reassurance and connection. Early Dementia Support: Apply patience and consistency, offering gentle direction and maintaining a routine to support her early signs of dementia. General Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in her balance, cognitive status, or overall well-being. Required Skills & Qualities Patience & Empathy (Essential): Must have a demonstrated history of working with older adults who are emotionally needy or require frequent reassurance. Experience: Previous professional experience as a PCA or Home Health Aide is required. Experience with dementia patients is a strong plus. Reliability: Must be highly reliable and punctual. Safety Focused: Must understand proper techniques for assisting with transfers and ambulation.
