Delores and Donald hired me as caregiver Jan. 2014 to prepare meals, take to the doctors, laundry, change linens, light housekeeping, grocery & errand shopping plus occasionally out to eat. I worked an average 4 hrs. each day Monday to Friday for close to 20 hrs. a week, sometimes went over. With my help they were able to remain in their home another 16 months. In April of 2015, the Vairin's oldest son, Michael, determined that they needed to move into a senior community. They reached a point where they needed to be able to get help easily when I was not working. The community provided an apartment, meals & housekeeping plus emergency intervention. I continued as their caregiver/companion reducing my hours to 8-10 each week, they still needed me for trips to the doctor, laundry and shopping needs. In January of 2015, their 56 yr. old son Phillip, who is handicapped and lives with them, had a knee replacement surgery. Social Services determined that he needed a caregiver, I went through the program IHSS In Home Social Services to become his caregiver through the state. I helped Phillip 10 hrs. each week by doing his laundry, taking him to the doctor & on shopping errands, helping him with his exercises to build up his strength, keeping him involved in community and church events.
