One of the things I'm most proud of is a time when i walked in on a resident at the nursing facilities where i worked and his countenance just didn't look right so i asked the resident was he ok. He said yes but i just didn't have peace about it,so i called the nurse. To my surprise, he was on the verge of having a stroke due to the fact that i went to check in on him saved his life in time. Its physically and mentally challenging on a loved one to always have to do everything and especially if their not trained or knowledgeable about what they need to do. Its honestly a full time job. Most importantly I listen and talk with them. If they cant I will play music or read to them. I will bath them and change them if they are incontinent. My time with them Is just that. They have my full attention. It can be challenging and hard to trust someone with your loved ones. I vow to care for them professionally and compassionately.
