What makes me a great caregiver is the motivation to make a difference in maintaining a great quality of life for the person I am responsible for caring for them. I understand that even though they are no longer able to do things for themselves I can make that effort more comfortable for the family and the patient. I became a caregiver after working in a long-term acute care facility to which I was assigned to mostly geriatric patients. At that time I knew that they needed special care and a special person with patience to care for them. I made up my mind that I would begin to learn as much as I could to become a caregiver and assist in whatever capacity necessary to make their quality of life fulfilling and happy. There are many things I like about caregiving, one most important aspect of caregiving is helping the family maintain that in-home care for their loved one so they will not have the burden of traveling to a nursing home or have their loved one cared for by strangers in a facility. Home environment and a surrounding of familiarity is the best medicine. My personal achievement that I am most proud of is that I have my own business dedicated to caring for the elderly in a home setting. Due to COVID 19, I have had to make some changes and start over. My business for now is on hold but not my ambition for caring.
